Our Ped called me today and we discussed possibly starting her on Doxy for the Ehrlichiosis.

Has anyone ever successfully treated it with other meds, such as Biaxin?

How long does it take to clear it?

Are there any other meds and/or supplements used for this?

TIA!!

'Ehrlichiosis is a bacterial infection that invades and infects the white blood cells. There are two types of Ehrlichiosis: Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME) and Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE). Symptoms include malaise, fever, sweating, nausea, dry cough, headache, anemia, muscle aches and pain. First line treatment is most often Doxycycline, Minocycline and/or Rifampin. Cipro, Levaquin, Biaxin and Azithromycin have shown in some cases to be effective.'

Ehrlichiosis is one of the easier co-infections to clear. However, I would think if she has additional co-infections/Lyme the length of time to clear would vary. You'll want to follow resolution of titers since she is positive. My friend's son resolved in approximately 4 months and were on Biaxin/Rifampin combo.... They are 10 months into treating and still working on Bartonella and IND Lyme and on Biaxin/Cipro combo.

Is her WBC down at all? You could also track them if low to see if there is resolution along with titers. Sometimes when first starting treatment the WBC goes down... so worse before better. Have you tested binding immune complexes with her via Dr. B yet?
