adkmom Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I'm trying to decide whether to start Tindamax for ds4 this weekend. can anyone tell me what typically to expect as far as reaction/side effects? Really need to prepare. thanks and happy holidays to everyone!
ptcgirl Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 My dd11 reaction was pretty intense. She was in a great deal of pain in the chest cavity, wrists, knees, throat, ankles, etc. Some days she was barely able to get up. Her eyes were sunken and she appeared pale. She only takes it twice a week and it seems to be getting a little easier, or we are getting use to it! Wow, a 4 year old. That would be hard. Do you have it made into a liquid?
adkmom Posted April 22, 2011 Author Report Posted April 22, 2011 We're suppose to crush it. Is that the herxing reaction it's causing? Did your daughter have untreated Lyme for awhile? Wondering why it reacts differently on different people/kids.
LNN Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 This will be our 3rd weekend for DS8. I was very worried - but so far, it's been ok. The first weekend, after the 2nd dose, he developed a non-stop dry cough. The next day, after his last dose for the weekend, he crashed hard on the couch, said every muscle hurt and he ran a fever of 101. I thought it was a herx, but he continued to run a fever between 99-102 for 5 days. On the 4th day, my daughter and I came down with fevers and the flu. So there's no telling if it was a combo herx and flu or just the flu. Because his fevers didn't break until Thursday, we skipped that next weekend to give his body a chance to get well. Last weekend was our second round. The dry cough returned, but no other change in symptoms. Don't get me wrong - there are plenty of symptoms, but none that seem to be related to the tindamax, other than the cough. So I'm not sure if a bad herx is most common on the first weekend (which was muddied with the flu stuff) and the subsequent weekends aren't as bad - or is DS not responding as he "should"? Long way of saying the stuff I feared didn't show up the way I expected. I know that if DS tolerates the two days, the LLMD plans to increase to three days/week. If your DS struggles, you can always chose to not finish the course and call your LLMD on Monday. Also increase your detox efforts over the weekend and for the first few days of the week. I remember you have family around on Sunday, so you have a bigger picture to consider. Good luck!
Bill Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 I'm trying to decide whether to start Tindamax for ds4 this weekend. can anyone tell me what typically to expect as far as reaction/side effects? Really need to prepare. thanks and happy holidays to everyone! My son's anxiety rises on the weekends with Tindamax. We start Tindamax Friday night continuing through Sunday morning allowing him some time to recover before school Monday. (1 tablet Friday pm, Saturday am & pm, Sunday am) I honestly do not know is if this is herxing or a side effect reaction to the medicine just like a cough medicine will make some kids hyper. Like many aspects associated with TBI and treatment, you probably won't know until you do it. Happy Holidays, bill

Wondering why it reacts differently on different people/kids. My dd just started being able to swallow pills so I can relate to the crushing, etc. That part is definitely easier now. Yes, Dr J does think it is a herx which is suppose to be a good thing. We think that my dd had Lyme, babesia, and bartonella for about two and a half years without treatment for it. Looking back she had the very typical Bartenella stretch mark rash in July of 2008. Of course, none of the doctors at the time recognized it and now the situation is much worse due to their lack of knowledge. This is at least our best guess. I spoke with a public health official epidemiologist? And he said that her reaction is "proof" that she really has tick-borne illness. But, I've personally heard of people getting better without the intense reaction.
