sf_mom Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Have you had him tested for Lyme and co-infections yet? Petechial rash is a very specific symptom to Babesia. I have them on my face, chest, stomach. See my post from the Lyme Forum earlier this morning. http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=13292&pid=110282&start=&st=#entry110282 -Wendy

sf_mom Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Just so you know, you would have to test for Babesia separately. Igenex has the ability to test for Babesia Microti or Babesia Duncani strains. There are 17 known strains of Babesia with only the ability to test for two strains. An LLMD can help with clinical diagnoses if needed. -Wendy Edited April 19, 2011 by SF Mom
4lulu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 My daughter has an extensive history of petchiae and has been diagnosed with ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura) in addition to PANDAS. Her ITP was also triggered by a strep throat infection. ITP is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks the platelets in the blood. The platelet count can be determined with a CBC, but an actual dx of ITP is done by ruling out other things...can be associated with immune deficiencies or other autoimmune conditions such as Lupus, RA, or Thyroid problems. Her petechiae are usually all over her body though and she has a lot of bruising too. We see petichae pretty much everytime her immune system is activated...whether that be because she is sick or even just to exposure at school or from her siblings. Don't know if that helps, but probably a CBC is a good start just to make sure the platelet count is not decreased.
