cobbiemommy Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I have called the doc's office twice because DS refuses any more Bicillin shots (he's had 24). I have called twice to try to get an idea of what medicine or change to make. We just saw the doc 10 days ago, so we are very current with whole health situation. DS is starting to regress into separation anxiety, fears about dying, crying over his dead grandmother. I am at my wits end. What do you do, when they won't call you back? Cobbie

Cobbie Hi cobbiemommy, Maybe you've said this before, but have you used Emla cream? My dd 10 is great with the cream, and is proud of her ability to have blood drawn painlessly. But I know the bicillin shots are deeper and more painful. Just thought I'd check...
cobbiemommy Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 We have used Emla cream and ice. The insertion is fine, it is the amount of medicine being put in his bottom that hurts (2.4 million units). Tried to get doc to break it up into two doses twice a week, but no go. DS, 11, just said enough. He even made the nurse cry last time because he cried so much. Regular pediatrician thinks he has scar tissue in his bottom now. All I know is that if he does not take the Bicillin or the Augmentin XR we are going to be in a very bad place within another week. Cobbie
laure Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Poor little guy...only other thoughts along the shot line would be advil before (400 mg) because that helps dull the pain. Would they consider a numbing shot (I get those before deep tissue or joint steroid shots) That would be just a little prick, he wouldn't even feel it with emla cream, then follow that with the bicillin? Don't see why they couldn't do that. It would be just a fraction of the pain for the bicillin. The tough part would be convincing him that it wouldn't hurt as much.
cobbiemommy Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 They finally called and they are faxing in a prescription for Augmentin XR. I am so relieved. It is always darkest before the dawn.... Cobbie
Iowadawn Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 My suggestion was going to be to go to the office (by yourself) and explain that you have been waiting for a return phonecall for x number of days--perhaps there is a problem with my phone--My son is getting worse & I really didn't want to wait any longer if there was a reason I wasn't receiving a call. something like this-that doesn't sound like your pouncing on them, but will get them to call back to the nurse/doc to say that Mom is up at the front desk wondering about a phone call cuz her son is really tanking.
