FallingApart Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Can you get a herx after being on the same meds for 5 weeks? DD had only the most mild of reactions to starting her Lyme meds so at our 1 mo checkup the LLMD kept the meds consistent. As I mentioned in my last post, my mom, who is a strep carrier, was visiting us and 4 days into the visit, DD had a PANDAS-like reaction. Tonight was so sad for me. We had to pretty much knock her out to snap her out of he downward spiral. As I was tucking her into bed, she was ticcing away and my heart was breaking. It wasn't until that point that I started to wonder if this could be a herx rather than a PANDAS flare. The timing of this caused us to believe it is PANDAS. But, I guess the main question is whether a herx can come on later like that?
LNN Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 We've always seen a reaction to med changes pretty quickly - within the first week. This may be a stretch, but I suppose it's possible that you're just now catching the "wave" of the lyme life cycle (which is generally 3-4 weeks but maybe 5?). Or if you subscribe to the "full bucket" theory - where all these illnesses build up and cause the bucket to overflow - maybe it's a combination of the body fighting lyme plus "exposure" to strep or plus the lyme life cycle that's tipping the bucket. I know it's incredibly stressful because you have no idea if what you're doing is helping. I know the tics are hard, because it's such an "in your face" reminder of something going haywire in their brains and it's so public. But the only way to know is with time. If you trust your LLMD, give it another month and maybe double up your detox efforts. If after that month, you still don't have warm fuzzies, perhaps look into other LLMDs. There are many "protocols" - everything from abx only to herbs only and it's important to be in synch with the person your entrusting to make your child well.

LLM mentioned the lyme cycle at generally 4 weeks -- i was also wondering about 5 weeks b/c i've twice gotten migraines in a 5 week pattern. perhaps it could be not so strict and effects could show up at 5 weeks. i hope today is better for her and you!
