AmbersMommy Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Hi, My dd was diagnosed with Lyme last August. She is on Bactrim and Azithromycin (for PANDAS). She was 5 weeks post IVIG and was a completely different child. It was wonderful. She had stamina. She didn't get confused when she spoke. She called things by their correct names. Then...bloodwork came back and the doctor treating her for Lyme said we had to take her off of the Bactrim. We did and within 4 days she was gone again. It has been a month now and she isn't back to where she was before. Has anyone ever had this experience?
justinekno Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 What was the reason the dr gave for taking her off of the Bactrim? My son was put on Bactrim & Zith for his Lyme.
sf_mom Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Was she rotated to another alternative antibiotic. If so, the worsening could be the result of a herx response. We've had a herx last as long as 12 weeks with some symptoms. -Wendy
AmbersMommy Posted April 1, 2011 Author Report Posted April 1, 2011 What was the reason the dr gave for taking her off of the Bactrim? My son was put on Bactrim & Zith for his Lyme. Her doctor took her off of the Bactrim because her WBC, leucocyte, and nutrophil counts were really low. He said that Bactrim was most likely the cause. Then he consulted with Dr. Jones and put her back on. Unfortunately she had been off of it for 2 weeks. There wasn't another antibiotic put in its place.
justinekno Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Hmm, I have never heard of bactrim doing that. Did Dr. Jones disagree with that theory (I'm wondering since he said to put her back on it)? Her doctor took her off of the Bactrim because her WBC, leucocyte, and nutrophil counts were really low. He said that Bactrim was most likely the cause. Then he consulted with Dr. Jones and put her back on. Unfortunately she had been off of it for 2 weeks. There wasn't another antibiotic put in its place.
