Here they are: 1 1.18 3 0.43 4 0.14 8 0.72 9 0.3 12 0.55 14 0.33 19 2.36 23 1.27 26 1.5 51 0.72 56 0.65 68 0.55 The documentation that came with the test said that "concentrations of >0.35 are generally considered to be the minimum necessary to confer protection post-vaccination." I assume that means anything >0.35 is normal, but according to the mayo clinic website, anything >1.4 is normal. Can anyone tell me how to read these results? Would it be enough for a CVID diagnosis? I would think that your son is below protective levels for numbers 4, 9, and 14.... but if he has never had the prevnar (or pnumovax?) then we would not expect him to be at protective levels for all of these. The protective levels that you see are probably due to exposure to those strains, and it indicates that his immune system worked well for those. I don't think this will be a immune deficiency diagnosis, but I could be wrong. Was his total IgG or IgA low? Please let us know what the doctor says. The serotype results are a measure of the Pneumococcal Vaccine Response for Streptococcus pneumoniae IgG Antibodies by MAID. The 14 serotypes tested is the most complete test from what I can tell. It looks like one would test before/after vaccination to determine effectiveness of the vaccination. They look for a 2 - 4X increase in the numbers. No minimum has been defined or agreed upon because these values vary by age/exposure/etc. I have to apologize, I no longer have a reference and do not remember why these numbers are less than values. (Actually it is but looks like it's no longer what it was so won't paste it here in case it's now malicious. If I recall correctly, numbers below those below were indicative of an immune deficiency. Most of my son's values were < 0.3; all were below these numbers. Dr. B. did diagnose my son with CVID but I still have not had a follow up to confirm why he determined that diagnosis. I assume his serotype values but only an assumption. Prevnar was not part of his baby shots--he's too old for that--though he had all the others that were available at the time except the chicken pox shot (he had already had chicken pox).
