laure Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Dd 10 is 10 weeks into lyme treatment, but now having attacks of OCD (short-lived), with no apparent pattern. Her new hang-up is with "fat people". If a "fat person" touches something, she cannot then touch it, or touch anything else anyone else touches if a "fat person" has touched it first. Crazy!! (After all, we live in America, good luck with this phobia!) She takes Augmentin and Zithromax (max doses) and tindamax on weekends. I have not seen any difference in behavior on the weekends, so is the tindamax not working? She was tested for Babesia on Igenex and bartonella and one other with a more sensitive test than Igenex for these, can't remember the name... and came up negative. Her episodes are randomly spaced every five days or so, and intense for 30 minutes to an hour, then she seems to get over them. There are still other small OCD issues, but most people wouldn't notice them. She has improved a great deal since beginning the combo of Augmentin and Zith December 1, but seems stalled for the last 2 weeks or so. I guess I'm wondering if abx need to be changed or what others have tried/experienced.
sf_mom Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Typically, our LLMD does rotate antibiotics if treatments stalls. BUT, it seems like she is having little bursts/flair's of herx's (toxin dumps). We've had similar but it has been with the TICs in the past. The TICs seem to come out of nowhere, be rather intense, flair for a short period and resolve totally over a couple days... For us it meant he was getting ready to give a symptom up or advance in baseline. I would double up on any detox you are doing for a minimum of two weeks. -Wendy
laure Posted February 17, 2011 Author Report Posted February 17, 2011 Wendy, Thanks for that advice. Now I have to admit that, although I bought the bentonite clay capsules, I have only given them one weekend...the problem is, if I give her abx with dinner, then wait an hour to give Sacc Boulardi, then how long do I need to wait for the bentonite clay? Because by the time another 2 hours pass, she is in bed. I am worried about all the problems I hear of with gut leaking, etc., and so far we are doing well with the probiotics. But if I can find a way, I'll try, because these episodes are definitely occurring more and more often...the cries are totally different than regular tears, more of a gut-wrenching keening, for which she apologizes as she continues...very sad.
LNN Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Obviously your LLMD is your best bet on this question. But if you're looking for detox options besides charcoal or clay, you can try alpha-lipoic acid (ALA). We used Xymogen but I'm sure there are others you can get online or in a health food store. My son took one pill in the morning on an empty stomach, then had breakfast about a half hour later, along with abx. When he complained about the pill being uncoated, our LLMD switched us to glutathione. My son feels the glutathione works much better, but as far as I can tell, you can only get it thru a practioner. Both ALA and glutathione can be taken at the same time as abx. You can also focus on bowel movements - fiber drinks, miralax...a good way to get toxins out of the body that seems to be helping my son (who btw will NOT drink anything where he can detect an added powder. So we've resorted to smoothies of sherbet - which allows us to sneak in all kids of stuff and he actually asks for it).
sf_mom Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 LLM has some great suggestions. This is how we work in bentonite clay: 1/2 cup or 10 pills right after school at 2:30. Nightly antibiotic at 5:00 p.m. during dinner. All the other stuff including probiotics 6:00 p.m. 1 cup bentonite clay at bedtime 8:00 p.m.

I thought we were doing good with 3 at a time. And that sometimes takes some nagging...
sf_mom Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 At first we made it into a game. Who can take the pills the fastest, etc (I take my pills with him). Then we started a star chart for getting it done and on time for school, etc.... with weekly rewards of silly bands, new fish, candy. Also no TV until you take your pills always works. Now, its just 'you are the best pill taker in the word'. It amounts to over 50 pills a day and its been a year now so he is used to it. I try to do as many chewables as possible. Everything we do is hd so its like 10 chewable raspberry b - 12s per day, 4 Ester - C gummies, etc. We do mostly liquid bentonite clay because he chugs it straight and its not a pill. -Wendy
