cobbiemommy Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 DS, 11, got his Bicillin shot today. He has had a rough day because a party at school was cancelled, we made him go to school the whole day thinking the party was going to happen, his best friend couldn't come over, he got his shot. During dinner, he got very angry when his sister stopped his show from recording on the DVR. He went ballistic, told her he hated her, when dad grounded him from TV, he said he wanted a new dad. VERY VERY Upset. Later he calmed somewhat, cried to his dad for forgiveness. He is in hot bath with epsom salts. Gave him ibuprofen and peanut butter. This is all very upsetting as we are into third month of Doxy/Zith/Bicillin. Husband thinks it is just him being defiant, but I think it is herx. Kind of normal reaction amplified by 1000. Husband believes in diagnosis, but I guess not the rest???? Anything I can show him to back up my point. I am the researcher, he pretty much just goes with what I tell him, up till now. We had a very stressful day, as insurance is denying all labs, doctor's visits, etc. Ready to call a lawyer. Anyone know a good one in MO? Teresa
aidansmom Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 I have a cousin who is an attorney and lives in Liberty. I will try to email him to see if he can do it (not sure his specialty)or suggest someone to go to and let you know what he says. It may be a couple of days before I can get back to you. Just curious what Lyme doctor you go to. I lived north of KC for 10 years, have a brother currently living in KC north and my Dad is in Columbia. I am in Northeast Ohio now. Perhaps I should PM you also. Elizabeth

Teresa i think deciphering/determining the herx vs. exacerbation is a very difficult task. i am being treated for bartonella, babesia, lyme since Aug. at first, i felt no different. major symptom most likely irritability. although i can piece together much from the past few years.. after 2 mths, no real change. then a change in med, much less irritablity. then next month, massive migraines - with aura - i have visual disturbances with it (i had them as a teen, went away, came back after pregnancy). during mth 3 &4, having often and quite bad. then i got a bartonella rash on my upper leg. dr thinks migraines are likely related to TBI. so -- just my opinion based on my personal experience -- i do believe herx can come out later in treatment vs. having to be right in the beginning of it. the things you describe are upsetting events, so to me, it doesn't sound like your son is simply being defiant but rather inappropriate overreactions which is very much a symptom of PITAND. can you reframe it for your husband as that rather than defiance or brattyness? perhaps you can find some info in the pinned threads or dr. k's website or dr. c's research that talks about cam-kinase and it's involvement in fight/flight/freeze mechanism. perhaps your dh would be accepting of terms being it's that mechanism that's being triggered rather than an active choice on ds's part - ? Suzan Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Our LLMD gave us Lorazepam for dd9 for her anxiety and over the top outbursts and uncontrolable emotions. I was afraid to use it after hearing a lot of negative reactions by PANDAS kids. I used it one night during an episode that sounds similar to what you describe. It calmed her down and allowed her to get in the salt bath and calm herself. We are lucky that these events have been very few in between since we started her lyme treatment but I'm glad to know I have the lorazepam if I need it. I only gave her 1/4 of a pill since it is not generally intended for children. Susan
