Recent clinical evidence suggests that neuroactive peptides may exacerbate symptoms in patients suffering with OCD and eating disorders. Additionally, neuroactive peptides have been associated with ADHD, depression, and psychosis. Specifically, the peptides casomorphin and gliadorphin from incompletely digested dairy and wheat proteins, casein and gluten, respectively, have been shown to be elevated in patients with OCD and eating disorders. A multifaceted approach, including integrative nutritional support that addresses the nutritional deficiencies and the presence of neuroactive peptides is required for the appropriate treatment of OCD and eating disorders.
