LindaUhl
We experienced the sudden OCD traits last year after our son had strep. He has just recently gotten strep again and we are seeing an increase in OCD. He was on antibiotics as soon as we got him to the pediatrician. It isn't as severe as it was last year, but I am wondering how long he should be on antibiotics, and if we can expect it to get as bad as it was before? We didn't even know that he had OCD until this happened last year.
ad_ccl
Hi there, My son had PANDAS as well but he gets tics with illness not OCD. Your post caught my eye - I am usually over on the tic board. I can only tell you what our recent experience has been - my son had a strep infection again - (first since the full blown overnight explosion of tics last August) about a month ago - even though he was on prophylactic antibiotics to prevent the strep. We increased the dose to the full dose for 15 days, while his symptoms did increase a few days after the strep was diagnosed they were absolutely nothing like last August - on a scale on 1-10, 10 being last August he was probably around a 1.5 - his symptoms slowly decreased and although he does still have some minor tics present he continues to improve slowly but surely. He had none of the behaviour issues that he had last August either. His handwriting briefly deteriorated but is fine again. Hope that gives you some hope that things will be better. Of note - over the last few months we have started supplements, determined food allergies and eliminated tv, replacing with short amounts of LCD TV - all of which have absolutely contributed to his overall wellbeing.
