eljomom Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I can't remember what article I saw it in, but think it was the one by Leckman, Murphy, etc about Beta-lactams and penicillin (ceftriaxone) being used for glutamate modulation? What class are all the above drugs in??
lismom Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 You're right. The penicillin family, the b-lactam for the glutamate. I've read a little on it. It caught my attention because I wonder with the PANDAS issue we have I think my son has problems with methylation system. That is why in the past we have been on strict diet to help detox and keep things as anti-immflamatory as possible. We are on zithromax and the thought to add augmentin for co-infection I think he has also may double for the glutamate. We keep on having flare of symptoms. What made you think about glutamate? Thanks, Kathy
Kayanne Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Penicillins: Penicillin (pen vk) and injectible Pen (Pen G or benzathine), Amoxicillin, Augmentin Cephalosporins: Kefelx, Omnicef, Duricef and many others Macrolides: Erythromycin, Zithromax, Biaxin -- possibly clindamycin (some sources class this a a macrolide others call it a lincomycin antibiotic -- I've never gotten full clarification) This is not an extensive list at all...I just listed the common ones that are mentioned on this forum.
