Hello, My name is Vicky and I have just recently joined this group to learn more about PANDAS. We strongly suspect our ds11 has PANDAS as a result of a confirmed Strep infection this past June. We managed to get a referral to Dr. Corbier, a Pediatric Neurologist in NC, however we can't see him until late March. In the meantime we took all 3ds's for a rapid Strep and all were negative. We're taking ds11 back tomorrow for a Strep culture. My question is, would it be helpful to see a Pediatric Immunologist while we're waiting for an appointment with Dr. Corbier? Our GP knows nothing about PANDAS and doesn't seem all that interested in helping out directly, but gladly gave us the referral we requested. Can anyone recommend a Pediatric Immunologist in North Carolina? We live in the Greensboro/Burlington area.

Thanks so much for any help and guidance you can provide,

Sincerely,

Vicky

Dr. Bouboulis in CT is who we see. He is an immunologist and one of the top PANDAS docs.

However, if you can't make it up there, here is a doctor that was listed on the PANDAS Resource Network list. Doctors can be on this list because they've helped someone else somewhere along the way in some way, shape or form - but they may not necessarily experts. You may want to start with a call and ask others to PM (send you a private message) you with any experiences.

Dr. Mauve O'Connor, allergy & Immunology, 2630E. 7th St.100, Charlotte, NC 28204

800-862-7328

Hello Vicky & welcome! I'm glad you joined as this is a great site for information; many members have been here for years and are very knowledgeable.

I do not have a name for you, but here is the link to the page that Beth Maloney (author of Saving Sammy) maintains on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=233696275037&topic=14968 Under discussions, she has a listing of doctors that was recently updated. If you have insurance coverage, looking back now, I'd go ahead and take him if it were me, to rule out anything there, if nothing else - my daughter does have immune deficiencies.

In many kids, exposure to others who have strep (school, home, friends, church, etc.) is enough to cause an exacerbation of PANDAS.

Wishing you the best,

Denise

Check out this thread, too. Scroll down and you will see several doc's in NC mentioned. You can also go through the "doctor's we have seen" thread in the "helpful threads" section at the top of this forum. You should just check out that section anyway. You will probably find a lot of good info there.
