Just got back from church listening to muffled vocal tics during the service. These kinds of tics are completely fine with us and easy to live with. Its the loud ones that really disrupt things. Every now and then when Thomas gets excited I think the volume of the vocal tics goes up. Are there any other related factors ? When the "bad antibodies" kick up in reaction to a virus or strep, thats when you get more tics right ? Anyone have any remedies for "turning down the volume" ?

Thanks

I know I am dreaming here.....is there any sort of fabric that can serve as a sound absorber ?

As a ticcer myself, there's really nothing we can do. In situations like church most of us can hold them in/muffle them, but it hurts. :/ I think they're louder when we get excited/scared/whatever just cos it's a stronger emotion. I dunno why, but I definitely see what you're seeing! Don't know what you mean by the sound absorbing fabric though...

i don't have insight into tics b/c my son doesn't tic. . . however, i have to think there is some relationship - - ds has times of being very loud -- i mean, his general volume, in a different way than just being a loud kid.

i have to think it has a neurological basis. i do think there is some symptom of asperbergers that has to do with volume regulation. my ds has shown some symptoms of asperberger and i know others on this forum have said that.. i think if we didn't know pandas, my son's erroneous diagnosis would be low-level asperberger.

he had a day recently of this loudness. he was generally cooperative that day and when we repeatedly asked him to turn it down, he did. although, short lived until we asked again.

sorry - i don't have any tips.
