adkmom Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 I'm totally confused. My son has been on antibiotics for about 1 week after positive Strep test. His blood levels were drawn and came back normal range? Aren't they suppose to tell if you have strep?
peglem Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 My PANDAS daughter, any many other PANDAS kids have no elevated titers, even with multiple, frequent positive cultured strep tests. Here's a thread w/ good info on titers: http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3756&st=0#entry29305
adkmom Posted December 4, 2010 Author Report Posted December 4, 2010 Thanks. This is all so confusing! Has anyone heard of children complaining about their feet hurting? My son complains about this for months on and off. Not sure if he's referring to joint pain...he's only 4.
Kayanne Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 (edited) I'm totally confused. My son has been on antibiotics for about 1 week after positive Strep test. His blood levels were drawn and came back normal range? Aren't they suppose to tell if you have strep? How far out from his strep was his blood drawn. If you draw too soon, there will not be a titer rise yet...I think (going by memory) that the ideal for ASO is 3-6 weeks after and AntiDnase is 6-8 weeks after. Also, there wes a study done with kids who had confirmed strep infections, and blood drawn at ideal times, and had no titer rise...so titers are not that helpful in regards to PANDAS.
