Has anyone had a metabolic panel? My son's triglycerides are through the roof! I mean crazy high (700 mg/dL and 130 is normal high). Is this common? I think it is probably because of 5 years of Abilify, but I just wanted to check and see if this is common. Last time we tried to take him off of Abilify he completely lost touch with reality, so I really want to get the Pandas under control before we try to do that again. We have dropped his dose considerably, though.

During earlier tests, his Vit D was extremely low (15 ng/ml and 50-80 is normal.) It is so frustrating to have so many things wrong and to not know for certain what is the best path back to wellness! I don't know what is Pandas-related and what is other health problems. Aggh!

Hi Purple

My dd10 had high HDLs, but I was told that was from the fish oil; triglycerides were fine. She was on 2 mg of Abilify for on and off for two years, didn't help more than it harmed, so we stopped about a year before these labs were drawn. Her Vit D is 50 in a reference range of 30-83, so that's okay too. She does have a slightly elevated albumin/globulin ratio.

I hear what you're saying...this condition, syndrome, complex whatever they end up calling it... is as crazy to figure out as the symptoms it causes!

Well...I know that high triglycerides is not good....I would pursue the reason for that and try to get it lowered. My boys have normal metabolic numbers, so, I can't help there as far as it being related to PANDAS. (I would think not)

Jill...High HDL is GOOD! Glad to hear the docs think it is because of the fish oil because that is why I take it....trying to raise my HDL.

did you get immune panel done for Igg,IgM, IgA and subclasses? that ratio could be off due to a low or high igg level.

Our Vit d was slightly low (but sooo many peoples are) mine was too. My son's was around 25 as I recall, so not too bad. But 15 seems like it might be in defecient category. I'd google it. the recommend level for our lab said above 30.

I think codliver oil is high in Vit D...so maybe switching some of your fishoil to cod-liver oil will help? Or just add a Vit D supplement. We like the drops - they are tasteless. It takes a few moths to build up the levels.

my kids and I are from northern Europe - swedes and irish and german, so our ancestors ate a diet high in these fish and oils, to keep Vit D heathy in almost no sun environment.

Now those foods are missing from our daily diets, and we slather sunscreeen all over our fair skinned kids blocking the other way they can get vit D...so no wonder they are lacking. (and I am too).

You are correct; both her IgG and IgA are LOW

Yes, we are definitely supplementing vitamin D and using fish oil. Maybe the fish oil just hasn't "kicked in" yet since we've only been very regular about it for a few weeks. I'm giving him 5000 iu Vitamin D until we re-test. It's my understanding that you should use about 1000 iu for every 10 points you want to bring up the vit D blood level.
