Guest Guest
There are many ways to test heavy metal, such as hair analysis, urine test (DMSA challenge), stool test, and blood test. Can anyone please let me know what the differences are, and which one might be the ideal (and safe) one for children? My son had the heavy metal hair analysis test. The test showed there’s no heavy metal. Our doctor suggested urine test. Hence I have the question. Your feedback is appreciated. Jean
Guest Guest_Jennifer
Jean, If an individual is not excreting heavy metals, high levels would not show in a hair analysis. Urine or fecal tests would depend on what you use to detox. Some detox products eliminate through the urine, in which case a urine teat would be appropriate and other ones are eliminated via the colon which would require a fecal test. One of our son's last hair tests showed very little heavy metal build up, when we did the DMSA challenge test, he showed extremely elevated levels of lead and almost toxic levels of mercury. With mercury and lead in particular, if your not using a specific detoxing agent, after a period of three months or so after exposure, they bind very tightly to organs or bone. So if that occurs you won't get a reading in the hair. Jennifer
Guest Guest
Jennifier, Thank you very much for the information! You mentioned that your son had DMSA challenge test. How did it go? Have you seen any side effect after the test? This is the test that our Dr. ordered for my son. After I read some feedback on DMSA, I'm not sure if I should let my son take it. Since your son did it already, your input will be very helpful for me. Thanks again! Jean
Guest Guest_Jennifer
Jean, DMSA chelation was never an option for me after the things I read, but I didn't feel that a one time dose would do any harm for the test. Long term is more of an issue. The only thing I noticed was that he was irritable, it only lasted that day, the next day he was fine. I'm glad that we did it because based on his hair analysis I slowed way down on the things I was using for detox support, but after the challenge test it was obvious that he still has issues.
