Hi to all-

We will soon be adding the drug Mepron 1 tsp 2x a day to our current doses of zith & doxycycline. What might we expect with this? Is this drug know to produce herxing? What about taste? Bleck, it would look! If really nasty--ideas to get this stuff down the hatch would be appreciated!! The Doxy did produce a herxheimer reaction.

I am anxiously waiting for my results which I know are in the hands of the doc by now. I have bugged them twice!! Errr!

Any comments on Mepron would be truly appreciated!

Plan on a rough 8 to 12 weeks...

I've been speaking with a women from NJ, all three kids have Lyme, middle child thought to originally have PANDAS...

Anyway, their oldest son also has babesia and their response was inclusive of rages, head banging, mood liability, night waking, panic attacks 'running off' but amazingly he has walked through the storm and things are starting to settle at 10 weeks. He was not treated with hdIVIG and TICS are gone, rages are gone.... I think he still has mood liability but its less frequent. Remember 120 days to replace RBC so potentially a good 4 months to get at all the infected cells treated.

Prepare for the storm appropriately and my only solid recommendation is DETOX (hot showers, exercise, lots of water, charcoal pills/bentonite, etc). Your son might not react as badly due to his PANDAS treatments and bacterial load.

Happy to virtually hold your hand over the internet while you weather the storm!! I too am anxious to know if you are positive or negative for Lyme?

Hi Dawn:

I agree with SF Mom about the detoxing. My daughter started Mepron at the beginning of her lyme treatment and she really herxed with the whole combo. I did feel that including the bentonite clay or charcoal pills really helped! I tried to space the charcoal pills or bentonite clay hours away from the antibiotics. Our LLMD also included herbal/homeopathy detoxing for the organs, like Mundipur and Renalix.

My children have not had a hard time with the taste.

FYI, it is very expensive. Our insurance, luckily, has covered the majority of the cost of it, but I believe that Mepron can run around $1000 to $1200 per month without insurance.
