Finished Cure Unknown by Pamela Weintraub today & have an appointment with a "Lyme-receptive" doctor on the 18th (no LLMDs in Texas. Go figure). I understood the vast majority of the book but was wondering if anyone could provide a list of what antibiotics did what.. Which ones are intracellular, which ones pass the BBB, which ones attack cell wall, etc....

Thank you for your help, you guys! <3

Also, just wanted to throw out there that that's the first time that I've been able to finish a book since the eighth grade (almost three years ago). I'm pretty proud of myself. :)

Hi Emerson,

I got this info from a book by Bryan Rosner called "Top Ten Lyme Disease Treatments" A friend had recommended it and I found it at my public library, if you get a chance, I think you will find it very useful.

Anyway...

1) Cell Wall Inhibitors: Cephalosporins (Omnicef, Ceftin, etc --anything with a "cef" in it)

Penicillins (Amox, Augmentin, etc)

2) Protein Synthesis Inhibitors: Macrolides (Zithromax, Biaxin, etc)

Tetracyclines (Tetracycline, Doxy, etc)

Lincosamides (Clindamycin)

Ketolides (telithromycin -- caution: serious side effects)

3) Anti-protozoals and anti-malarials: 5-nitroimidazoles (Fasigyn, Flagyl, Tiberal, Plaquenil) These are the "cyst busters"

The author says No. 1 is the WORST choice, because the borrelia spirochetes can just change into cell-wall deficient form, and then the antibiotic does nothing for you.

Hope this helps and you are wise to get informed before going for your appointment. Keep us posted!

Hi,

I was just looking at an article posted today and the newspaper where it was published shows and add for Texas Lyme Disease Association (www.txlda.org)

You might want to check them out.

Thank you soooo much!! That list was exactly what I needed. :) I remember most of the book but there were some things that slipped through. :/

& I got in touch with the TLDA in August. They said the same thing as ILADS & DFW Lyme... No LLMDs in Texas. We have an appointment with a "Lyme-Receptive" doctor on the eighteenth to look into a clinical diagnosis/more testing & depending on how that goes we'll either be heading out of state to pursue treatment or head down another avenue.
