cobbiemommy Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Does anyone have experience with Flagyl? DS, 11, is being switched from Zith/Augmentin because of severe Herx reaction. He became extremely irritable and hard to deal with. The Bartonella rash has really faded-Yeah! We are to take a break from ABX until mood clears and then start Flagyl in very small dose and work up to full dose. Also, my son has had a ton of sinus drainage. At first, I thought it was allergies, but worse than he has ever had them. Now I think maybe it is a Herx reaction. It seemed to start when we upped the Zith from 250 to 500. If you have experienced this, please let me know! Cobbie
KeithandElizabeth Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 So, our doctor uses Tindamax instead of Flagyl and he uses the Tindamax for the cyst form of lyme. They are supposed to be very similar drugs. We discovered that whenever we added a new drug, we would see herxes. My daughter had very severe mood issues with her herxing and it was hard for the entire family. We noticed that the first month was just almost constantly rough, but we could do some things to help such as the bentonite and epsom salt baths, etc.... Then the second month, we would have more good days each week, etc.... Around month 5, we would have one bad day every two weeks. So, as time went on, the herxing issues became less intense. It is a hard journey trying to figure out the right antibiotics and what is a herx and what is not! Elizabeth

My son's teacher is very concerned about him-he is a growling bear most of the time. We are thinking about having him go half days or something similar. On the plus side, his joint popping and foot pain are way down and I see a lot more clear thinking. He put together a 250 piece Lego vehicle by himself--something he could never have done before.
melanie Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 We used flagyl for 2 months.I was very happy with behavior on it.We went off of it about 2 weeks ago for no reason except the md said enough .he had some diarea(sp) but I would be fine with it again. Melanie
