Hi all, We are new and wish everyone the best of luck in dealing with Tourettes. Our 13yr old son just started ticking about 6 months ago after a round of nystatin. He had very minor tics before, so minor that we really did not realize that he had TS. He could not complete the nystatin due to really violent tics. After it left his system, the tics got much better, but still bad. He has been unable to attend school, he was an A/B student. We have tried twice more on much lower doses of nystatin (due to yeast that was causing IBS), with similar results. We have been through a battery of tests, finally made our way to a couple of traditionally trained docs that have gone the natural route. Found out that he is sensitive to dairy, soy, gluten, and many other foods and food groups, too numerous to mention. We continue to test and formulate the ongoing treatment plan with supplements and withholding appropriate foods.
We realize that there will be some reaction to Nystatin due to yeast die off, however, it is violent and very painful physically and emotionally for our son and us. The latest is today. We have decided that it is not worth the pain that it puts him through.
QUESTION: Has anyone experienced this violent reaction to nystatin and if so, what is the alternative?
Thanks very much for you input.
