  1. Hello to everyone. It has been quite a while since I have posted. My son is now 18 :/ I may be having that empty nest syndrome after his senior year! Wow, time flys by thats for sure. My son has done pretty well over the past 7 years tics wise. He has only taken acetyl l-carnitine with each bout that he has had since his first one at the age of 8. It has always taken them right away and now as he is faced with a pretty active "head shaking" tic that he has had in the past, I was turning to the acetyl l-carnitine again. My question is in regards to the brand. I have always used the twinlab but I am having a hard time finding that particular brand. I'm not sure if the stores that I have gone to are just out or not, but I have been so hesitant to buy anything else because of how successful the twinlab one worked for him. There is a "now" brand and I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything about this brand as to being good quality or not? Also, I wanted to put him on the magnesium and have been reading many many posts as to what kind but I am at a loss of where to start. I saw somewhere that it should be taken with calcium. I see that many have their children on a multi-vitamin as well. Is there a particular brand and dosage that someone may be able to recommend for the magnesium and vitamin? He is 145 pounds exactly at this time so I i'm not quite sure on the dosage. He is getting ready to start back on his vyvanse for the school year. He has been taking an ADD medication now for some time. He has not taken it for the last 3 months since he goes off in the summer, but he has had this tic now for a good month. It is really causing him some headaches. We are moving on from a pediatrician doctor to a regular family doctor and I plan on discussing his tics with her. I am still researching this forum so that I will better be able to discuss different test that he possibly could have done. Thank you for any help that you may be able to offer.
  2. Hello to everyone. I am new to this website in regards to posting although i have scanned many many threads trying to educate myself with L-carnitine. My son has just developed his 3rd tic in his lifetime. He is 11 years old and is approx. 100 pounds. His first one came when he was 8 and his 2nd one last year and finally his third one just last month. We have never see a doc. for them because they never last very long. However this particular head shaking has lasted the longes. Just at 5 weeks now. He has never had any treatment or even seen a doc. for these however, i have discussed them by phone with his pediatrition. Particularly recently about the L-Carnitine. He had not heard of it and recommened a specialist. I would like to try the l-carnitine first and have devoured this website and another website trying to find out the dosage of L-carnitine I went out and bought some tonight and unfortunatly i don't have a clue if i bought the right one. I feel so lost when i read the post about the supplements. I was hoping someone could help me as to what kind to buy, where to buy it, and what amount to give him. He is not on any other supplements or medications. He does have bouts of OCD and was treated for one episode two years ago with Luvox for 3 months. I would sooo greatly appreciate any help you could offer. The amount of information in this forum is amazing and so wonderful. However i seemed to be spinning in circles. Thank you Diana
