Just back to Canada from a successful trip to China, I eager to share my experience with other parents of TS child, I searched Internet and find this forum, guess here is a good place to post my message?
We live in Ontario, Canada, my daughter is 8 years old this year, she suffer cough during Sep. 2003 - Oct. 2003, after see different doctor, she be diagnosed as TS by her pediatrician at last Nov., taken Clonidine since then, her cough stopped but come out other tics, mainly neck movement. Also we are advised by doctor, this TS can not be cure.
As other parents, we start to anxious about our daughter, original from China, we certainly think about Traditional Chinese Medicine; will they have some methods to treat TS? We start to search on the Internet and find some clinic and hospitals in China claim they can cure TS. So we decide to back to china and have a try! As old Chinese saying: when you suffer illness, you try every doctor u meet.
We back to china on June 20th, a week before my daughter's school finish. Then our problem is: which doctor or clinic should we trust? We can find someone advised on local newspaper claim they are special in TS and ADD, (medical system in China is quite different from in Canada, don't want to talk about this too much today), but we only have limited time, (we plan to back to Canada at beginning of Sep), which one? Depend on your own judgment. Anyway, we must start to try one. My parent-in-law pick one up for us, after about 20 days, we decided to change to another one: the only official Chinese medicine hospital in the city. They have a clinic for children suffer from different kind of brain damage (sorry, I don't know the English term for those disable) also they treat children with TS and ADD. Their main methods are massage and acupuncture.
Then come the good news, after about 45 days treatment, all the tics (mainly neck movement and eye blink) are gone, also she stop taking any Clonidine (slowly reduced), no drug anymore. Maybe other factors help a lot, but we would rather to believe Traditional Chinese Medicine works. We feel very happy, also, no side effects, the cost is just about 4 USD each day.
Now she stop any treatment, I back to Canada and she stay in china with her grandparents, we would like to observation her for a longer time to see what happened later, in case tics come out again, she can go to the clinics again. We plan to go to pick her up on Nov. and back to Canada before Christmas time.
