  1. Is there a vitamin protocol that people find useful in combating some of the focus and impulse issues with ADHD. My son is 11. Thank You.
  2. I apologize if this has been discussed before but I was wondering if anyone has experience with balance activities such as the Belgau balance Board. I found a website called that Learning Breakthrough Program that has strong testimonials. Any first hand experiences would be appreciated. Thanks, Nick
  3. Andy, Thank you for your advise and supportive words. We live in a fairly low polution environment on the north shore of Long Island and there is no apparent environmental issue near my childrens school campus. We also checked our home for mold and the amounts were quit low. The interesting thing with my older sons issue is that it really became acute immediately following a 10 month home renovation that may have been a trigger. More questions and theories than answers but the good news is that my kids remain well adjusted to their neurological challenges and could not be more normal and happy(well maybe a little bit). We luckily have the resources to investigate different approaches and we will see were the path takes us. Thanks you and I appreciate the valuable information I receive on this forum. Nick
  4. My 11 year old has a tic disorder (no OCD, ADD, or serious vocal tics) and we are working with a DAN doctor and our pediatric neurologist on his condition. A few days ago our 6 year old daughter showed the slightest tic with a little shoulder shrug and a faint head nod. This would have absolutely gone unnoticed by me and others if not for the fact that our oldest has this disorder. My older son did not show any signs until he was 9 and I was wondering if this is a typical age and what advise the forum could share with me on how to best deal with this. I am educating myself on natural treatments for my son who shows daily signs of the disorder but wanted to know if there is anything that I should consider that may be more preventative or appropriate for someone with the earliest signs. Also, how common is it to have multiple children with TS or Tic disorder. No one in my family or my wifes has any such symptoms. One child with tics is stressful but manageable, 2 kids sounds really difficult and w have a total of 4 at home! The 3rd is very ADD with a learning disability but no tics. Thanks for listening. Nick
  5. Is Mag Taurate magnesium with Taurine or something different? I can't seem to find Mag Taurate in the vitamin shop, what brand do you use? Thanks, NT
  6. All, Two amino acid questions for anyone that has an opinion. 1. My 10 year old has had tics for 2 years and is now on a vitamin regiment that I slowly built up over time. When I introduced Taurine, a few days later it seemed that his tics got worse. I immediately stopped that Taurine(twinlabs capsules 500mg) but still do not know if this was coincidence or related to the Taurine. Has anyone seen a negative affect from Taurine? Is TWINLAB make a good taurine product and is the dose correct? Should I try again? 2. My son gets cold sores on his lips occassionally, as do I, and I give him Lysine as a treatment. Lysine is also and amino acid and I wonder if that falls into the category mentioned above of amino acids that can exaserbate tics or not? Thanks for any feedback you may have in advance. NT
  7. What is the best way to test for Mercury toxicity?
  8. Thank you very much for the information and concern. This forum has been very helpful for me in both understanding my sons condition and treatment options as well as moral support. Nick
  9. Thanks Claire and Chemar, I appreciate the response. I have been reading through as many posts as possible and compiled, what I believe to be, a comprehensive list of tests that are suggested on the forum. I am although unsure where to find the newcomer test list that you mention in your email? The doctor we met yesterday is very interested in pursuing this approach and started with allergy testing and detailed an elimination diet plan. He is also testing for strep , staph and heavy metals so I feel lucky to have found this fellow(btw - he is in Manhattan). My sons has had 2 ASO titer tests and the levels are not through the moon but certainly elevated in both cases. The other interesting coincidence is that the tics first appeared as we were doing major construction on our home. Have you seen this trigger the onset of tics? Thank you again for your insights. Nick
  10. My son is 10 Years old and has recently been diagnosed with TS. It began with eye/facial tics, then abdominal tics, slight leg spasms and now primarily shoulder shrugging. Some minor vocal tics specifically sniffling and throat clearing. Also, drumming/tapping on things but not sure if this is his musical interests showing or part of his TS. At this point no ADHD, although his 8 year old brother is ADHD, and no signs of OCD. He attends an academically challenging school and is in the middle of the pack so no real learning disabilities at this point. The tics started about 18 months ago and he is now on week 4 of Tenex. As I learn more about this medical issue and the results that folks have had with non-medicate solutions the more apt I will be to take him off medication but I am still in the education process. He is going to an allegist today that was listed on one of theT he American Academy of Environmental Medicine. www.aaem.com website and we will take it from there. Overall I would classify his current condition as mild to moderate. What I have had trouble fully understanding is the likely progression of the ailment. My sons neurologist claims that 75% of children with TS get better as they reach puberty yet I still see alot of adults posting on the site. Does a mild case of TS at 10 years old mean that it will remain mild or is the progression more random than that? This is my first post so apologies if my note breaks any rules of etiquete on the site. Thanks for your time.
