  1. Have you tried spelt bread? We have only two grocery stores (Whole Foods and HEB Central Market) that actually bake loaves of it and it is really good! I learned about spelt flour and bread from a friend of mine who erradicated wheat and refined sugar from her family's diet. She uses an exact exchange of honey in place of suger in recipes (1 cup honey in place of 1 cup sugar), and spelt in place of wheat flour. Awesome taste and texture to her baking. Spelt bread tastes great and we notice we feel better. There are spelt crackers and snacks, also. Just thought I'd share the info...
  2. We use Primal Defense as our probiotic and it works great! I've tried others and not had much luck with taste or results. Primal Defense is really good. Local GNC, Whole Foods, or another vitamin or natural health food store should have it.
  3. Hi there - I was diagnosed with Tourettes when I was 10. I started wearing contacts at 18. I'm now 37. In all the years before I wore contacts, I used to mask my eye ticks when people would say "your eyes are twitching and you're blinking a lot...are your contacts bothering you?" I had the eye ticks, but not the contacts; However that didn't prevent me from masking the tics by using contacts as an excuse for my eye tics! Sometimes it was just easier to say "yeah...contacts", rather than explaining TS in the 1970s-80s when TS was more unknown/unique and less understood. I was always told the one unifying tic that all TS people have in common is the eye blinking. In the 27 years I've had TS, I can say that statement seems to hold true. Of course, eye ticks present at varying degrees of intensity and based on other factors...but I can definitely confirm that my contacts have never been an issue or cause of my tics being more prevalent. In fact, they were probably more helpful for me. I think getting them sooner may have taken some edge off of the other teen stresses (acceptance, image, etc) - emotional/hormonal stresses that can "flare up" ticks. But the actual contacts....no problem. Good luck.
  4. Hi All- I'm new to theboard and thought I'd let you know the following: I'm 37 years old (female) and was diagnosed with Tourettes at the age of 10. My younger brother and my father both have it also (milder cases). We were the first family diagnosed with it by a neurologist in Houston, TX. (they were excited to have a bonefide family with it in 1979.) Anyway - all three of us notice an increase in tic activity when the seasons change (definitely including pollen increases - I dislike pine trees!), and with significant temperature changes (this is more of a trigger than the pollen). Facial tics (predominantly eye "blinking") are the most prevalent reaction. Just thought I'd note it in case you were interested.
