I've been on these boards many times over and over and have read some of the best advice as to how to deal with my son's tics. He's 10 years old, but he's always had the eye blinking and coughing tic. But a couple of months ago, he started head jerking right after school got out for summer vacation. It was so bad that he was having his tics almost every couple of seconds. I started with an allergy test, turns out he was allergic to wheat, dairy, oats, grass and dust.
Here's a list of treatments that have helped him:
Eliminating foods he was allergic to, also preservatives and foods with dye. (food dye is a big one for him as is with a lot of kids)
Started NMT treatments for allergies (similar to NAET)
Acupuncture twice a week to start, now he's going once a week (turning point for him)
Vitamins: B-Complex and OPC-3 (recommended by his acupuncturist, the brand is NutraMetrix ~ both are isotonic so it absorbs quickly)
I must say I started seeing progress after a few sessions of NMT, but after he started acupuncture is when he really started to get better. So if you've tried everything else, maybe you should give acupuncture a shot. I know that it's a combination of diet, vitamins, acupuncture and NMT that helped him. He no longer has the head jerking, but still has a slight coughing tic. Overall he's a lot better now than a couple of months ago. I pray everyday that he stays healthy. It's been a long road with a lot of days of crying and sleepless nights trying to get my son better, so I just want to say to all the parents out there to hang in there and find a combination of treatments that will work for your child. I'm so grateful to this board for all the advice from other parents going through the same pain I was going through. Hope this helps....
