  1. Hi - I spoke with the ENT's nurse and he did use both abx and steriods in IV during the procedure. He prescribed her Omnicef as an alternative to Penicillin, but am wondering if others have experience with this - good, bad, or otherwise as an alternative course of action which might help? If that is not preferred, I can call her pediatrician to see what they would recommend too. Thank you again, all! Marty
  2. Thanks for the questions/thoughts. I called the ENT doctor to see what the course of abx/steriods were (if any) during the procedure, so I can update with that information once I hear back. I also inquired on the need for stronger abx during this recovery time. Prior to the procedure, she was on augmentin and then rifampin for the last 5 days of her 10 day augmentin. During that time (specifically rifampin), she was by far at her best. Prior to that, it was just penicillin/cephalxin, but she had been on some type of abx for 2 months prior to the procedure. If I can is augmentin a good, stronger abx to get her back on?? Thank you again - this is quite discouraging!!
  3. Hi, All - My daughter had a T&A procedure on Monday of this wk. She was great the remainder of the day after the surgery, but we saw a huge flare yesterday and into today with the OCD and emotional instability (back to what it was at the initial recognition of an issue). I have read that this is somewhat common, correct? How long did it last for many of you who saw this? We still have her on penicillin, and plan to increase to 2x day vs. 1 starting today. The other 'wrinkle' which I fear might be the case is that I was diagnosed with the flu yesterday.... I looked a bit, but couldn't find a lot on it - could she have the flu and not show any 'normal' symptoms as is the case with strep and Pandas??? We have a clinic appointment for later this morning, but wanted all of your thoughts prior. Thank you all in advance for any and all ideas/thoughts! Regards, Marty
  4. Thank you both for the reponses and additional resources!! With the swabbing - would it require another rectal swab, or would it be present in the throat too? If we were to get tested, which would we do?? llm - I had read about others who saw success with tonsil/adenoid removal. Was that something recommended to you by your doctor, or did you recommend it to the dr. after the continued symptom returns? Sorry for the continued newbie questions! I appreciate the guidance and insight!
  5. Hi, All - I cannot tell you how grateful I am that I came across this site and information on PANDAS in general as my 4.5 year old daughter started to show recent symptoms that match what I have read. Just this week, she was diagnosed with rectal strep. She was complaining about the need to go, and constant 'dripping', which began obsessive wiping. Upon bringing her to the clinic, the Dr. did not think it could be strep based upon looking, but we encouraged swabbing and testing anyway to rule it out - came back positive. This was just several days into the onset (or noticeable increase) in symptoms. She is now on Amoxicillin. Beyond this, we have seen a big behavioral shifts. This is primarily surrounding the start of irrational behavior (upset about things to the point of screaming and shaking – almost like a panic attack). She does also have anxiety - not severe, but noticeable. I have read a lot over the past 24 hours, and am trying to decipher a tactical plan to ensure we do all needed in the near term to assess if these are indeed early symptoms. When I talked with her Dr. about it, they said to wait out the Amoxicillin, and see if the symptoms remain or come back - she has seen cases of PANDAS. Is this the right thing to do? Should we schedule to get her tested for strep again at the end of the Amoxicillin? She has had strep in the past that has come back quickly (or it never went away) after Amoxicillin, so we are fearful that will be the case again. I read that all others in the house should get tested too? Finally, is there a right or wrong way to address her behavior when she displays the obsessive or irrational behavior? Sorry for the length of this! Many thanks for any insight you are able to offer! Regards, Marty
