  1. Thanks! I'll check out that site.
  2. The only thing I ever took for Tourette's is Clonidine. It reduced my tics by probably 80%, but as it is a blood pressure lowering drug, even a small dose made me light-headed and I would almost pass out. I decided it wasn't very safe for me to take it. Maybe if I had high blood pressure....then it would be a great solution. I'm sorry about your son. I developed TS when I was 7....that was 37 years ago. Back then they knew even less than they do now. My mom didn't know what was wrong with me and thought it was psychological trauma from my early childhood.
  3. Yes, please provide the name of this herbal remedy you gave your daughter. I'm interested. You'll have to watch her for a long time to see if they have really dissipated, or if she is just going through a period of less activity. These things tend to appear more noticably when under stress or in times of excitement. Over the years, I have alternated between mild and more severe symptoms, depending on a number of factors.
  4. You need to love yourself and and not judge yourself, because you have done nothing wrong. I have lived with Tourette's and OCD for well over thirty years, and can tell you that guilt and shame are things I had to overcome. You are who you are and have nothing to apologize for, regardless if you have OCD, and regardless of your orientation. You need to open up to your mother first. Then you can start thinking about appropriate therapy.
  5. I have OCD, and do a similar thing with the breathing. I'll hold my breath in elevators, and sometimes actually expel all the "bad" air from my lungs and don't breath until I get out. I have a habit of banging my glass down onto the table, or grind it into the table, before lifting it to drink. I often need to reach out and touch the thing that is just at the corner of my eyesight. Yes, you have some OCD behaviors. Do talk to your mom. It's important not to keep things like that bottled up inside.
  6. Thanks, I will be around. Feel free to ask a question if you think of something. I guess there aren't many people who live with this who like to talk about it. That's the way I used to be, but not any longer. I have helped with my experiences one woman with Tourette's, and another whose son has a high level autism related to Fragile-X syndrome.
  7. My primary tic in my adult life has been the neck/head twitch. It has led to neck and shoulder strain, aches, and stiffness. The best thing for it has always been rest. Massaging helps a lot too. A vibrating massager on the neck can really bring relief. In recent years I have been into fitness, and go to the gym. Working weights to strengthen my upper back and shoulders has really reduced the aches and pains from this tic to a minimum. Your son is too young to do that yet, but as he gets older he'll find that strengthening the muscles will help a lot. I can't help you on the alternative treatments, as I have never gone that route.
  8. I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a 44 year old male and have had Tourette's and OCD since I was seven years old. I have gone on to have a good life, with a wife and a daughter, a nice home and a career. But my symptoms have never dissipated, and it is something I live with every day of my life. I'm not coming here to seek help, quite the opposite. I have come through this life challenge in pretty good shape, and have learned to deal with it in my own way. I've always felt an obligation to help out others where I can with my own experiences. I recently helped a friend of a friend with Tourette's. So I'll stop by here from time to time and offer my own personal anecdotes. Maybe they'll be helpful to someone.
