  1. Thanks so much for posting this Peglem. It is very resourceful. I wanted to thank you again for you response on rapid strep. I took my dd to ped again yesterday and asked him to do another rapid. This time it was negative..and it's been a little less than a week. I have kept her on the zith and I am going to watch her closely. May I ask, how do you do zith..daily, weekly? At this point we are daily. I have a very hard tome with these abx as my daughter has several other issues including gut/bacteria/yeast issues preceding her strep/pandas issue. I am seriously considering homeopathy. Thanks again for advice and article. Jv
  2. Peglem...thanks for your reply! I think this is what we are thinking about. I am going to bring to doc for another RST tomorrow and see what the result is. I feel like zith really helps, particularly with the behavior aspect of it..it was practically like nothing so it must n Be helping. I really appreciate the input..jv
  3. Thank you for your responses. I should say that she was on zithromax when this happened and she was a bit emotional and then woke up the next morning with petechaie around her eyes so I took her in and that when we got the positive rapid. Since we have not had a positive rapid since she had Scarlett fever I brought her back they next day for a culture. The nasal culture was they same day as the rapid and the throat was the day after the rapid. Both came back negative. He will give me a new abx but this just upsets me so much. About two weeks ago for the first time in a year her ASO was back in range..139. He is suggesting duricef. We have not given her new abx and left her on the zithromax this week. She is already ok again. I am so confused about this. So what I am gathering from responses is I should start new abx. Does anyone think I should leave her on zithromax? Thanks everyone..you guys really are the best. Jv
  4. What does it mean if you get a positive rapid strep but a negative nasal and throat culture? I'm confused synths and not sure if there is an infection or not. Thanks for help. Jv
  5. Thanks you mazoo...this is the first positive strep she has had since last march. We have used BIcilin, amoxicillin, and then zithromax but I must say with the other two her symptoms were much worse and she always tested negative but with a titer rise. Zithromax is the opposite..symptoms not so bad at all and positive rapid strep. The only way I knew to bring to doc is that she had slight petechaie around her eyes. Last week I just got a blood test showing ASO back in range for the first time ever since Scarlett fever in feb '11!! I was hoping to stop all together soon..,! What a joke right. Do you think I should continue the zith once a day too? Thanks for replies again. Jv. Check with the doc, but if it were my kid, I would want to do the short term treatment for positive strep concomitant with the long term. I would be extra alert for common side effects with antibiotics, yeast infection, diarrhea etc... but I would be leery to let the blood level drop off on the zithromax. Thanks this is what I was thinking.
  6. Just bumping this up....does anyone else have advice?

  8. Also, the zithromax wile not protecting her from strep seems to really keep symptoms very very mild...should I keep her on that too while treating with new abx? Thks
  9. Hi everyone, I do not post often and will come back to explain whole story but I need to decide on this antibiotic for dd 4 as soon as possible. She swabbed positive for strep while on zithromax. My choices are this one or augmentin which we have never done. My daughter has bad gut issues and also a stool test showed high clostridia...not difficile though. Which one would you go for? Appreciate all replies...thank you jv

  11. Wow this thread could not have come at a better time for me. After a few months of close to zero anxiety and rage on zithromax my dd 4 had a major rage attack just now. She twists her ankle over and over again and screams and throws herself all over the place. She woke moody this morning which we have not seen in a while and has progressed throughout the day to this. Yesterday she started with heavy breathing..anxiety type and sighing and is still doing it today. We haven't this problem since November. I'm feeling very overwhelmed and helpless...that this is never going to end. Jv
  12. i didn't even know dr. Drew had a show! Wow how sad...what channel is it on. This jv
  13. Norcalmom, thank you so much for the very sound advice. I need to look at myco and test for lyme. My dd also tested positive for h pylori..so the fun never ends. She has great improvements on antibiotic...the best I've ever seen her but the results have waned with another illness..or in case of amox and bicillin just became ineffective. She has big fungal issues, viral issues as well so we have many things at play. I am going to get in touch with dr. T and do his bloodwork and see where we stand...if I need a llmd..I will certainly come here first for some expertise.....all I can say is thank god for this message board...very supportive, welcoming, and understanding. 14. Thanks for your responses. Her history is..had done some bloodwork in December 2010 for another doctor as my daughter has immune issues with yeast, bacteria and other developmental delays One of the tests was Aso and at the time I had no idea what that was..it came back 133. About two months later my daughter came down with Scarlett fever. We gave her a bicillin shot and she improved..she started talking much more, and her fine motor skills improved..we were amazed. About a month later I noticed my dd doing some weird thing with her cup..moving it to edge of table. At this point I had done some research on strep and came across pandas and the meaning of Aso. The thing is she must have had a strep infectio. At some point before SF that went untreated...thats why she had positive ASO. Based on what I read I took her to pediatrician and asked for swab..she was positive. We gave her another shot..but the results only lasted so long, rages started happening but she never has had another positive culture again..just ASO rise..the highest has been 233 and behavior are indicators..she is currently on zithromax 200 mg daily and she is 36 lbs.. Before that we were on amoxicillin for two months. We have been treating with abx for about 8 months total. We have not tested for Lyme, but mycoplasma p. Showed on a recent stool test. We have never cultured ourselves as we never have sore throat so never thought of that. I do know she has high IGG and high viral markers. Her pandas symptoms are rage, increase in scripting language as opposed to regular talking, compulsion with her dolls..making them all sleep, had extreme anxiety at first..cant be alone, not wanting to go to school, and bowel issues, increased tactile sensitivity as well..there are other that are more transient but those are the main ones. Worrieddadandmom, I will PM you..thanks for sharing. Thanks everyone Im taking it all in..JV
