deby
My ds8 started having tics 1 month ago. One thing that I've noticed is every time that he needs to read he starts with the vocal tics. The thing is that he was a pretty good reader. In one hand i don't want to put pressure on him in the other hand he need to continue reading. What he told me today, that when he has a mistake he gets really frustrated. Could be this a start of OCD + TS?
patty
deby, My son used to have a vocal tic when he was read to, so i don't think that is uncommon. I suspect that reading is a stimulation. Sorry that your son is going thru this. I would ignore the tic because as we know, it is involuntary. Too much attention to the tics just creates anxiety and indirectely may cause more tics. It is important for him to read and enjoy reading and try to continue with his normal routine. Have you tried epson baths and magnesium to calm the nervous system? Or try have him read in the bath tub while soaking in epsom bath to see if it makes a difference on the tics. Pat
deby
Thank you! We are doing some epson salts and natural calm, but I'm still not sure if they are helping. He started having some lose bowels so, maybe it is too much magnesium.
trggirl
It's not really a tic, but my daughter gets stuck on words and sentences and has to say them over and over. It's frustrating because she gets stuck and has no comprehension of what she read.
deby
I think his problem is a minor OCD, that makes him be perfectionist. When he makes a mistake while reading, he gets frustrated and then he yells (tic).
patty
Yes, magnesium can cause loose bowel, so use a lesser dose. Pat
