Thanks for sharing this!! There might be something in here for Buster. I still have my tonsils. I had a nasty strep infection throughout my body, as I am told, about 40 years ago. The family doc was baffled as to what was making me so ill. A referral to a big-time specialist at the time--pediatrician :) yielded a positive throat culture and a stint in the hospital for a week. I have had psoriasis for as long as I can remember. Very interesting article.

Dr. K is having us wait two more weeks before we run titers on our family again--by then we will be off zith for 2 months. He commented that he is nervous. After this we'll decide the next step.

Buster might be able to decipher if there is anything new that relates to PANDAS in this article.

I would definitely forward article to Dr. K...... He knows you suffer from psoriasis, correct? I am highly suspect it might be the reason for the high titers in the family. I'll admit it will take me several more reading and an layman's interpretation from Buster for clarity on the T- cell discussion.

Ultimately, I got from the article is a tonsillectomy could solve psoriasis.

Hi Dawn,

My son recently started with tics, and we suspect PANDAS.

I was searching the forum, and I got to this post.

I have psoriasis for 20 years and also I had really bad strep infections when I was a child, that eventually they went away after a long treatment of antibiotics.

Can you explain to me why all this could be related to my son PANDas?

Thank you!

Deby

I think the implication is a genetic predisposition to a strep triggered autoimmune disorder.

Deby,

It is my understanding that psoriasis can be strep related..... am I wrong? Study shows removing tonsils might cure psoriasis. You should definitely talk with IOWADAWN via PM or phone as their entire family suffers from high strep titers and potentially contributing to their son's illness.

Also I would recommend having your entire family titers check. Dr. Kovacevic (http://www.webpediatrics.com/pandasclinicalcases.html) is working very closely with Dawn's family in helping their son to recovery. Perhaps a phone consult is warranted once you receive lab results.
