Please respond if you have taken Zithromax

Finally doctor prescribed dd (age 10, 85 pounds) Zithromax. We are taking 250 mg per day. Can any of you relate to that dosing with any of your children about the same weight/age? Any results at that dose? I'm not sure what kind of dosing this is - is this high or low? I know that when we tried Amox we were at 500 mg per day. The doc that prescribed this is familiar with PANDAS, but not an expert.

I am trying azith currently for my son 10 1/2, 53 lbs. the dose is 250 mg. 1x day. (I believe th 250 is the standard dose). its about 15 days so far and I don't think I can report any improvement. (tics, vocal and head/neck, ocd, etc)... before this we did augmentin at 1000 mg. per day for a month. we are kind of new to treating as PANDAS, but dealing with these issues since he is 3 1/2.

please keep us posted how it goes for you.

hi kcdc3- My kids are on azith. DD, 36 lbs is on 200mg/day, DD, 54lbs is on 250mg/day. I believe these are treatment doses; not high dose, but not prophylactic. Your son weighs more so I would check to see that it is enough. I believe you can go on zithromax's website and find out the normal treatment dose for strep for that weight. It is certainly ok to do a larger dose for a short period of time.

My little one went on zithromax pretty quickly after her first episode. At that point, it took a full 20 days to START to see improvement. She did then improve to about 95%. It def takes time.

How long have your kids been on this? After a month, I would consider a steroid burst to possibly jump start the healing.

I agree -I'm thinking we might need a higher dose. We've only been on it a few days, and I certainly do not expect any improvement yet - but I'm treating with a doc who may or may not go another 30 days and want to make sure I get this right while I can. If I can just get the slightest improvement, he will be more likely to continue. My dd has been suffering with this for 3 -4 years, so not sure what to expect as to how long we might need to stay this course.

My son is 9 1/2, 63 pounds and is taking 375mg per day of Azithromycin. We saw an initial improvement on a lower dose, then drastic improvement with 3 days of prednisone, then lost most of these gains when he caught a virus. Since then he has remained about the same, even when we bumped up the abx to 375mg per day about 6 weeks ago. He just had IVIG this past week, and the pediatrician wants to leave him on the 375mg for a while to see what happens.

Are your children on Zithromax daily? I am going to switch from 1,000 mg. augmentin XR twice a day to Zithromax. My Pedi isn't sure of dose and we are not seeing a specialist until mid January. My son weighs 158 lbs. The 2,000 of augmentin hasn't helped. It has been 7 weeks.

We are on 250 mg per day - but just started last week. No sign of improvement yet, but I have read that it may take 20 days or more to see improvement. I'm still hopeful.

My daughter (age 12, 95 lbs) was switched a week and a half ago to Zithromax 400 mg per day. (I posted earlier today that she was on 500 mg per day, but just realized that was an error.) I saw improvement within 24 hours. Prior to Zithromax, she was on augmentin for 7 weeks with minimal change in symptoms.

We have been on Zithromax for 7 days now and just yesterday, dd said that "it was weird" but that she kept getting "messages" that she didn't need to do some of her rituals. Quite possibly is this because her brain is now beginning to be able to "get" the messages that it was not able to get before?? We shall see.
