red 40 + temporary tattoos?!

My son has a reaction to Red 40. He is outta control and extremly hyper and physical when he has a little tiny bit. My question, maybe a stupid one..... I noticed today that he has some Spiderman temporary tattoos that are made with Red 40 and Blue dyes, by putting these on his skin would/should this cause the same reaction as him eating it? He's been crazy today, and I can't figure out if he's just having an off day or maybe we should "lose" the tatoos even though eh loves them so. Any thoughts? I'm extremly careful to not allow him to eat it, and everyone he is with has also been briefed on the fact he is not allowed to have it. My husband had a similiar issue with it when he was young. My mil always told me everyone thought she was crazy by cutting out artificial colors, cause that was 30 years ago and no info had been brought out about it. My husband also has diagnosed adhd, son hasn't been diagnosed cause he's 3.5.

My sister's children used to react to coloring on their skin. I don't think they do anymore. She would put Invisible Glove (you can google it) on their hands if they were going to be getting coloring on their hands (like paint or I guess food dye). Maybe that would allow him to still waer tattoos? I know how important Spiderman tattoos are- have 3 little boys who love them. They definitely react to dye ingested, but i have not noticed then reacting it to it on their skin, yet.

The temporary tattoos with the red 40 could be absorbed by the skin making him react the same way he would if he ingests it. Just like a nicotine patch, whatever you put on your skin is absorbed by your body. That invisible glove sounds like it would work to keep the red 40 from being absorbed. I was think a clear nail polish would do the same thing but the invisible glove is probably more safe.

OMGoodness...I have never thought of this. We just put 3 Spiderman tattoos on this morning. Sould we worry about dying easter eggs as well?

any artificial dyes can be a problem on food, skin etc

 

I recall once hearing of natural dyes for easter eggs made with beetroot, carrot, etc but honestly dont remember where I saw it for sale.

My dd9 also had trouble with foods that have red dye. We realized that dyes in temp tattoes, shampoo, lotion and even chap skin cause a reaction..the hard way. She picked a chap stick out at the store as a reward when she was 6. She put it on and looked like a clown because it was all around her lips. We didn't think my much about it until the next AM when she had a red stain all around her lips. She refused to get dressed, refusedto get on the bus...my husband carried her on the bus 3 times and each time she ran off the bus. She had never had an issue going to school before that. Then we put 2+2 together.... Doesn't matter if the dye is in food or skin products.
