dee45 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hi, I have another guestion?? The type of magnesium my son is on is Magnesium cheleate I have been reading alot of your posts and think I should swith to magnesium taurate--any thoughts would be appreciated. Deannamagnesium taurate
Chemar Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hi Dee magnesium taurate is considered very beneficial for people who have TS tics. It IS a magnesium chelate ie the magnesium is chelated with the amino acid taurine I am not sure what type of magnesium you are referring to? did you mean chelate instead of cheleate? If the magnesium you are using is chelated with many amino acids that could be problematic as there are some aminos that stimulate dopamine and therefor increase tics
dee45 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 hi, thanks for the quick response--this is what the supplement I have contains. Vitamin c--50mg vitamin d-400 IU calcium(from calcium citrate/gluconate/carbonate/lactate/ascorbate/and Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite---750 mg Magnesium(from magnesium chelate)--375 mg boron--3mg glutamic acid--(from 75mg Glutamic acid hcl)--60mg L-Lysine(from 36 mg L-Lysine Hcl)---29mg He gets one of these twice a day. Thanks for the help. Deanna
Chemar Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 do they say what the magnesium chelate is chelated from?? I would definitely check on that it maybe chelated to the Lysine and glutamic acid, both of which are amino acids personally I stay away from glutamates because of my son's tic etc triggering by monosodium glutamate Lysine, as far as I know, is ok to take. It is an excellent supplement for viral conditions, especially herpes virus (shingles, chickenpox etc) as it inhibits the viral reproductive cycle I have not heard of it being a problem related to tics the rest of the ingredients in that supp look good to me taurine(in mag taurate) is an amino acid that seems to help many with TS tics. we do have a couple of reports tho from members who have found the opposite and that it triggered tics. so again it is a trial and error thing. we never used mag taurate itself, but my son takes taurine as a separate supplement, and gets his magnesium from the natural calm as well as his epsom salts cream and tubs, his protein multivit shake and his diet
dee45 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hi, right next to the magnesium it says (from magnesium chelate) do you think I should try another vitamin free of the glutamic acid?? It seems alot of people talk about this natural calm--what are your thoughts.. Thanks again you have been so helpful. Deanna
dee45 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hi, me again, may I ask what brand of taurine he uses--this is another area where I am feeling overwhelmed. Deanna
Chemar Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 hi Deanna we use the NOW brand of taurine, 500mg per day my son really likes the Natural Calm now tho he has to watch how much he takes as it is magnesium citrate and too much can cause runny tummy. he has a cup of it with 2 tsp of the powder each night the rest of his magnesium comes from the other sources I mentioned above re the glutamic acid....honestly that is hard one as some people take glutamine without problem. becasue of my son's known reactivity to the monosodium glutamate we just play it safe and stay away from it. if you arent noticing an negative effect on the tics then it may be ok
dee45 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hello, I think I want to try the Natural Calm with my son he is 9 so does anyone know exactly which one I should get?? there is a pedatric but I think he can have the adult one any suggestions greatly appreciated. Deanna
dee45 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hi, I just feel something is not right with his vitamin regime his tics are worse the last few days I am getting so confused and feel like I am second guessing myself on everything.
Chemar Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Hi Deanna yes, if he is ticcing more on that supp then it may well be the glutamic acid depends on his age/weight re the choice of which calm product....
dee45 Posted March 16, 2009 Author Report Posted March 16, 2009 Hello, not sure if its the glutamic acid or the b vitamins should i stop both?? he gets b vitamins in his multivitamin and maybe try the natural calm--what are your thoughts?? thanks for the help. Deanna
Chemar Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 if he is already taking Bs in his multi then the B complex may be too much. he may just need extra B6 and B12 rather than a whole complex along with the multi you could try cutting it out for a few days and see if anything improves
dee45 Posted March 16, 2009 Author Report Posted March 16, 2009 thanks again for the quick response --he seemed to be doing so well on the vitamins until the last week and a half I will go to the vitamin shop in the am and get just b6 and b12---and see how it goes. I will keep you posted. Deanna
