lynnie1264 Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Hi... Just been reading alot on the benefits of Benadryl. Over here in Australia it is a cough medicine liquid. I'm wondering what it is in America? I get the feeling it's not quite the same thing. I know here that they don't advise people to use it for long periods. Thanks, Lyn.
Chemar Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Hi Lyn Benedryl is an antihistamine the reason it seems to help some people with tics is that they most likely have co morbid allergies and so the anti histamine effect is beneficial I do hope that people arent going to start just giving benedryl to kids for tics as reducing histamine when it is not elevated is just not a good idea. also some people have adverse reactions to anti-histamines so I do urge caution with this
lynnie1264 Posted January 15, 2009 Author Report Posted January 15, 2009 Thanks Chemar... I was just curious as to the difference because I couldn't imagine having cough medicine helping tics. lol Thanks, Lyn
footballguy Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 What are co morbid allergies? Chemar Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Hi footballguy it seems many people with neurological disorders also seem to have allergies comorbid generally just means more than one illness or disorder occurring simultaneously...sometimes linked but not always
