emma1 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 As I was searching the internet , I found this (Mindsoothe) from Native Remedies, I believe. Has anyone tried it? Trying to figure out if it is something special, or just St. John's Wort.
Chemar Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Hi Emma Native remedies makes a lot of good herbal treatments. only thing to be careful of is if things that may help with the OCD/depression that SJW does, yet they may be not good for tics. We had to learn that balance when my son needed the endorphins from D- phenylalanine. It helped his raging OCD but triggered tics, because phenylalanine stimulates dopamine. I dont know what's in mindsoothe? could u link to it from the NR site..... the caution would be classic OCD and depression and anxiety can be helped by things that sometimes are contra-indicated for tics we found SJW at very minimal dose, and in conjunction with the other supps he was taking for this, helped the OCD and depression and anxiety very much. dont forget those sunlight sensitivity warnings for st john's wort active ingredient, hypericin, tho if you do try it. sun time would need to be very limited.
emma1 Posted May 29, 2008 Author Report Posted May 29, 2008 www.nativeremedies.com/products/mindsoothe-emotional-wellness-info.html It has St. John's Wort and Passion Flower, I think, though I cannot find the doses, which isn't good. Does your son use SJW now? If so, how does he deal with the summer sun. (Teens aren't always the best about saying indoors during summer!) Do you have a favorite brand of SJW? The SAMe and 5HTP has helped -- though she hates the brand of 5HTP I bought as she says it smells (and she is right!). But we are still experiencing repetitive thoughts, and so I thought perhaps SJW would be better, either alone or in combo with the other two. She has been on SAMe about 6 weeks and 5HTP about 4 weeks. She has been experiencing some lack of appetite as well, which might be linked to the SAMe or 5HTP (or the combo)?

Just wnated to chime in that my ds has reduced OCD symptoms over the past week after we started him on a Neuroscience product called Kavinace. It has Vitamin B6, taurine, and an amino acid complex. I'd say he's 80% better and is controlling his symptoms. He even admits he feels better. Our naturopath is waiting on our results from the Neuroscience urine test but his anxiety was so high I begged her to let us give him something other than the kid's calm. Also, I have seen his tics reduced, too. Not gone away completely, but reduced. Hope this helps!
