HAS ANYONE CHECKED DATES

I am fairly new to these boards so I am not sure if this has already been discussed but I read something lastnight that suggested I check the dates of vaccines.

 

Well I just did and here goes.........My daugter was born on 9/12/02. Perfectly normal and healthy.

 

On November 2, 2006 she received the Measles shot, the Mumps shot, the rubella shot, the chicken pox shot, the polio shot, the Diphtheria, the tetanus and finally the Pertussis. This was all in one visit.

Shortly after the eye blinking started. I brought her into an eye doctor on 12/28/06.

Her bangs were cut another month or so later (around Feb 07)because she had that head shake that looks as though they are trying to shake the hair away from their eyes.

A few months after or so a call from her teacher after she noticed Gianna doing some odd movements.

Her first neurology appointment was 8/3/07. Diagnosed with a habit (tic disorder) stating that it would probably go away. I never believed it was a HABIT!!!!!!!

 

She has been ticing ever since..... Sometimes very mild as we are now and at other times it comes on strong.

That appears really odd wouldn't you say?? It all started after the vaccines. Maybe its just a coincedence??

 

 

The strangest thing I keep forgetting to mention on these boards is that we live in Orlando Florida and every year we visit our home which is Upstate New York and ALL of her symptoms have completely disappeared both times we traveled there. Our stay was a week or so both times. What is going on with that???????????

I have a friend here who's dd has tics, mostly throat clearing and eye blinking and their doc(who's a TS specialist here in AZ) said they were compulsions. He said that her body started doing the tic as a habit(due to an allergy or hair issue) and that her body just adapted it into a tic b/c it 'felt' good. Hence, the compulsion to do it.

Quite frankly, I don't know if he's right but she did say that allergy meds broke the cycle of tics for her dd. She also mentioned that her dd does have OCD tendencies ie: she has to have the bottles in the shower arranged in perfect order.

So, maybe there's something in your house or environment that causes her to tic like in an allergic reaction that is not present in NY?

 

Have you tried allergy meds with her to see if that makes a difference? Have you had your house tested for mold? I noticed my son tics less when I give him allergy meds but I hate giving meds all the time. So, since the tics are relatively mild for now, I'm holding off and working on cleaning up our diets first and getting some good supplements in him.

 

BTW: How is the Intrakid going?

What documentation do you have to check the dates of vaccinations? I have to go looking for that little booklet where they fill out the visits and mark vaccines when they are babies. But I do have a sheet with all the vaccines listed in a column and the dates given. The office gave me a copy of this when I think I changed doctors a few years ago just to have proof that he was up to date on the vaccinations, but it was handwritten all at once, like they just copied down all the vaccines he had and the dates from another source. I wonder if it is accurate, and they didn't just write down anything just to have a record, you know?

 

I have looked at this at times to see any correlations, but nothing jumped out at me. I gotta look into it more.

Hi, How about the weather. My daughter went to florida last year and her tics increased. She definetly cheated on the way she ate over there but I also wandered could it have been the heat.

I am so glad that you mentioned the travel thing because I too wonder about that. We live in Michigan and almost two years ago we traveled to TN. for two weeks. The first day we ate at McDonalds and about an hour after that we saw him tic once or twice. After that we ate out at other places off and on but we rented a cabin so we made a lot of safe stuff as well. My son did not tic at all after that first incident. He only wet the bed twice, while dropping off and picking up our dog at a relatives house in Ohio. Both times he slept in a sleeping bag on the floor. Actually while I am typing this I wonder if our dog has anything to do with it. The cabin we rented was a pet friendly one though so I am sure there was pet dander etc. floating around.

She said it was just claritin!

And, the doctor she saw was a psychiatrist who specializes in treating Tourette's patients. I, personally, have not met with this dr.

Not only do I have questions about the vaccines and dates of them starting....I would love to see a study on the manufacturer of the vaccines and the number of kids who developed tics.

 

I wrote about this in a post a while ago and Kim put an article in there about how some manufacturers had "less pure" vaccines. My nephews and my one son who has issues were all vaccinated by the same DR office. My older son had most of his vaccines in a different part of the state?????? I will never know!!!!

At my daughter's five year check up, she received MMR, DTP, and OPV/IPV. It was within a few weeks that her first tic started. I wish I were more informed then. I wish I were more diligent, my daughter should not have received the P part of the DTP due to previous reactions, but they gave it to her anyway. Someone wasn't checking the chart, and I didn't remind them. It makes me so angry. Even if they remove the mercury from all the shots, our children should not be receiving so many different vaccines at one time......Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, and whatever the OPV/IPV is. That is so much for one little body to handle.

 

I recently read something that said in 1980 children received 10 childhood vaccinations and the Autism rate was 1 in 10,000. In the year 2000, our children got 36 childhood vaccines and the Autism rate was 1 in 150. Coincidence ?

I suspect your child may have environmental allergies that trigger his tics.

 

I believe environmental allergies plays a role in my son's tics. As we have been working on relaxing his nervous system and desensitizing him from food & environmental allergies, his tics has much improved. As a result, he is asthma free and his nasal allergy is very mild compare to what it used to be. His mood also improved.

Is it possible that she has some sort of allergy that makes her tics worse? Upstate NY is a much different environment than Florida. Are there some foods she normally eats at home that she doesnt when she goes to NY? Look at ALL the differences, even the ones you think could not possibly make a difference.

 

Just noticed Patty said the same thing. Sorry for the repeat but its good to know its more than just my opinion.
