Jake_ay2k
Hey there, nice to meet you all. I stumbled upon the symptoms of OCD and it really made me wonder if some of my behaviour may stem from that. I'd just like you give you an example of a few of the things I do-- If I am walking down a pavement or path with cracks in it, if I step on one crack with my right foot, I then feel as if my left foot is not even enough and then must step on another crack with the right foot. They then both feel equal and I must not step on another crack, and if I do, I must make sure I equal them out again. If I am looking at an object, and I can see more of it with my right eye, then sometimes I find myself looking at it more with the left side of my vision, again as to "equal it out." Quite a comical one next, but one which annoys the ###### out of me. If I walk out of the house with trousers which has a fly on, I check it, and if I remember to check its done up that first time, I usually continue to check it again and again, a countless number of times. I've left the house once and accidently closed it too hard and made it slam open again. Luckily my mum was home. However she told me about it, and sometimes, if I'm about to set off somewhere in the car, I pull on the door three times. Then I get into the car. Then I stare at the door, desperatley trying to work out if is closed properly, then sometimes get out of the car JUST to check it again. And one more I can think of is when I've checked all the windows are closed in the house and the gas is out. But then I imagine in my mind me accidently brushing against a gas knob on the cooker as I go to close a door or something, then once again enter the house to check on it. There are a lot more obsessions I have, but i'm just wondering if anybody can identify with these and maybe make an unofficial diagnosis?
kallik
I'm not a doctor, but it sure sounds like symptoms of OCD. If these thoughts are at the level of causing discomfort, I would definitely make an appointment with a phsychiatrist. "I have never been able to spell that word correctly!" Anyway, in the past my problem was intrusive thoughts, and my compulsion was to continually ask God to forgive me for those thoughts! Worrying about the thoughts, and trying to "get them out of your mind" doesn't work. It makes them more prevalent. I wouldn't want you going through many years of this like I did! Some people are having success with alternative therapies, some with medications, some with prayer and letting go of anxieties, or a combination. Whatever works for you to have a happy, joyfilled life! Best Wishes.
