Hello!

I’m feeling VERY alone because I haven’t seen my doctor at all since BEFORE I was diagnosed and put on an antibiotic!

I have been diagnosed with adult PANDAS recently on top of a diagnosis of ADHD, anxiety, hypoglycemia, hypothyroidism, and seizures

I began treatment with an antibiotic last month, but I’ve been feeling VERY introverted, irritable, and indifferent for a month now, especially. Does anyone else have these same symptoms?

I want to keep to myself and only work on what I need to do most of the time and I get overwhelmed or very irritable when Im in social settings or am made to talk to someone I dont have to talk to or don’t plan on talking to. I’m also very indifferent to most things I do and to most people. I don’t feel like I care about anything.

My mother is VERY upset with me that I’m like this because I don’t want to talk to her and I get short with her very easily. It makes me upset that she’s upset because she’s now telling me that I’m not getting better in her eyes and that I’m not so sick that I should keep to myself in this way.

In short, I kind of feel as if I dislike everything!

What are anyone’s experiences or thoughts on such things with PANDAS?

thank you!

I am so sorry to hear about your struggles.  Have your symptoms changed since you started the abx (antibiotic)?

I don't have any experience with adult PANDAS, but can easily imagine that what we see in children can easily translate to what you are describe as an adult.

If your symptoms did get worse since the abx started, search "herx" with the dialogue box in the top right corner, once you are in this group (rather than the entire site, or just a thread).  That will give you a bunch of hits on experiences of getting worse before getting better on abx.  Descriptions of herx are usually dramatic, but that might be because only the most dramatic reactions are noted and reported - there may very well be such a thing as a slow, drawn-out herx.

Ah this makes sense now that I think about it. I mean, I’ve also gotten off a few psychiatric medications recently as well as the antibiotic. Since it messes with bacteria in the gut, it may cause moodiness. It could be a combination of these things that has made me so mentally and emotionally sporadic. I think I and my mom, especially, need to see that perhaps things will get worse before they get better

Thank you!
