Son Diagnosed with Sydenham's Chorea

Recommended Posts

My son was just diagnosed with Sydenham's Chorea. Is this similar to PANDAS? He has been having Chorea like movements for a while , mainly in his hands, like he is playing the piano with his fingers. His Neurologist wants to put him on long term antibiotics until he is 18. He is 10 now. They said it was a low dose,  but I just worry about things like infections caused by long term antibiotic use.  I want to do what is best for him, and definitely don't want him to get any kind of heart problems from future Strep infections.  I was just wondering if this is the normal treatment , and how other people's children are doing on this treatment. Thanks!
