New to this and feeling overwhelmed

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon-

I'm so glad that I have found this website and forum. My DD (age 9) has had eye blinking tics off and on for 1 1/2 years. It has really only been eye blinking and squeezing her eyes shut. I have started to look into this and feel very overwhelmed by all the information. I had them do allergy tests (pricks on the back) but nothing came up. I've tried eye drops, allegra and magnesium rub and nothing seems to help. There will be a few months that she doesn't have any and then all of a sudden, they are back. I can't seem to correlate them with any stress, tiredness, etc.

One interesting thing - she had an ear infection (her first ever) a few months ago and the dr put her on antibiotics. The ENTIRE time she was on antibiotics, she had no tics. When the 10 days were up, they came back.

I have heard Natural Calm may be helpful as well as some food changes. I just feel overwhelmed and don't know where to start.

We have just moved and she started a new school, so she is embarrassed by her eye blinking and the kids are starting to ask why she is doing it.

Would love any/all feedback you have. Are there a few things that I should start out with?

Thanks in advance-

Hello

If the tics improved while on antibiotics I would really suggest you look into the possibility of infection being the cause of them. Perhaps take a look at our PANS forum as there is discussion there on many types of infections that can result in tics.

Moving, new school etc also has many variables that could be triggers for these tics. Take a look at our helpful threads for more info http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2459

Sheila's book is also a valuable resource, whatever the root cause of the tics may be http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1314
