jmjkjs
Hi, I have a wonderful and amazing 6 1/2 year old son. He's extremely bright (way ahead of first grade peers in reading in math). Although he is bright he is very distracted at school and needs more time to complete tasks. He's also missing social cues (not paying attention when time to get jacket on, etc). He's sensitive and sweet and also somewhat clumsy. I have him in speech therapy and physical therapy as well (low core muscle tone). About two days ago he began to develop an eye tic. It's not constant but it's there. I'm really overwhelmed. Is this the beginning of adhd and tics or Tourette's? My husband also has tics from time to time. I don't even know where to begin. I have a call into the pediatrician and haven't heard back. I just love him so much and want the best for him. I just feel helpless and fearful not knowing what is going on with him. Where do I even begin? I feel so overwhelmed. Thanks for feedback and support.
Chemar
Hi and welcome. I can't post long as heading out, but do try not to worry. Eye tics can result from many things, so this may well be transient. One of the most noted things here is that many have seen improvement in eye tics after eliminating dairy. This is not relevant to everyone, but certainly worth trying. Food sensitivities/allergies can also cause the "brain fog" that mimics attention issues. The many other things that might trigger eye tics are also discussed here (other dietary or environmental triggers, effect of flicker from screens etc etc) Take a look at our Helpful Threads link at the top of this forum. Hopefully others will soon reply with more info for you.
Wombat140
Oh, one thing - whether or not this just goes away on its own (small ones often do), if you ever end up discussing medication for the ADHD-type symptoms, do mention to the doctor that he's had tics. Ritalin and similar medications often set off or exacerbate tics, so doctors are cautious about prescribing them to people with any history of tics. Good luck to you!
