Testing your water filtration system such as RO

Recommended Posts

Cheri and others,

This might be a good tool for you guys who has filtration system.

http://www.amazon.com/TDS-Meter-Disolved-R...5309&sr=8-2

This measures TDS, total dissolved soluables.

TDS will consists of metals, salt, minerals,etc...

Pure water suppose have 0 ppm reading from this meter.

Poland spring has 26 ppm.

Water faucet is about 200-300 ppm.

My Reverse Osmosis is about 13 ppm.

The more ppm the harder the water too.

Yes mineral is a good thing too, however I wish there is a tool that tells me if that ppm consists of metal or just minerals or both..or salt..

Here is what I do.

I measure the faucet water and get its reading, i.e 200 ppm.

I measure the filtered water and get its reading , i.e 13 ppm.

So 200-13 is 187..that is how much TDS removed.

so 187/200 is about 93.7% .

Replace your RO or filtering system about 80%. Which means TDS will show 40 ppm on your filtered water.
