Antibacterial mouthwash to help with teeth coming

Recommended Posts

DS' tics have been off the charts for the past week. I noticed he was cutting a new tooth (the slowest TOOTH EVER) so I was wondering if having him use an antibacterial mouthwash for a bit would help with the inflammation and bacteria? Has anyone tried this with worthwhile results? I was also reading about how dental cleanings were difficult so what about using it then? Just some thoughts.

My PANDAS specialist mentioned we should start DD on a mouthwash and it should help. He mentioned Listerine because of the active ingredient.

As for an actual cleaning you should have some type of prophylactic antibiotic and a loading dose 1 hour before cleaning.

Also, I took my youngest to the dentist today and was explaining a bit about my daughter. She said she would be fine with just x rays and an exam for a bit while we get this under control.

I guess it couldn't hurt and us an easy, low cost potential solution! My only thought (and it's certainly not a concern) is that when we are so busy using antibacterial soaps and agents, the immune system can become bored and begin to trim in itself. Just a though, but that's one if the theories about why food allergies is in the rise in our current society. Of course, if want to eliminated potential bacterial infections in my pandas kid, and if it helped I would do it! Just food for thought.

My non PANS daughter who as an immune complement system deficiency has had an ongoing infection in her mouth following a cleaning in June 2013. We have tried amoxicillin, clindamyacin, chlorhexidine rx mouthwash and a number of over the counter mouthwashes. What seems to have almost fully eradicated it was daily swimming in a salt water pool during a recent vacation. I was hopeful it would help and it did, her mouth almost fully cleared up during that week. Worth a shot.
