FLmom
Feeling discouraged. My son started augmentin 875 on Wednesday and he still has just as many issues as ever. I was really hoping to see a change within a few days so I'd know if we were on the right path. I only have a 10 day supply and if no difference we are to do prednisone. But I don't know if the PA will be on board with that and prescribe it. Just wanted to vent a little.
jferinga
Our pediatricion prescribed 2000 mg per day of Amoxicillin and our child weighs 45 lbs. Our pediatrician supplied the antibiotics after talking with the National Institute of Mental Health.
Mommy2MCL
Before we thought PANDAS could be our diagnosis, we noticed my daughter responded well to antibiotics on 3 occasions. Zithromax and Amoxicilian. On the Zithromax we did two rounds almost straight. After this we noticed the marked improvement. And most recently on Amoxicillian on day 8 or 9. Since seeing the PANDAS specialist we were giving Augmentin. My daughter has stabilized. We see days where there is almost no ticcing to days where it is increased. From what I am slowly finding out that this is par for the course when dealing with this... I think it is normal that you don't see improvement yet and I wouldn't feel too discouraged yet. JoyBop
Hang in there. It took a good 8-10 days before we saw any change. Give it a few weeks. Take a deep breathe and take one day at a time. Your child will get better.
FLmom
Unfortunately I only have 10 days worth. So I'm hoping to see a change before then. I think that the 875mg is the highest dosage of Augmentin except for the XR--not sure how they compare. After this Augmentin, we are trying a steroid burst (if I can get my doctor here to give it to us), then if still nothing, I'll ask for the Zithromax. cara615
I am new to all of this but we do have a confirmed (as confrimed as it can be) case of PANDAS. We did not see marked improvement on amoxi until day 8 or 9 like like joybop said. Maybe a bit sooner but it was hard to tell. The improvement was SO VERY SLIGHT and VERY SLOW from day to day. There is nothing dramatic about the recovery. Its baby steps in our experience. Hang in there and do you best to try to get more abx in order to demonstrate a positive effect in your child. i think if you can prove they are working then the doctor may be more inclined to prescribe a longer regimen. airial95
a few days is not long enough to see improvement. At my son's onset - it took us 7 days to notice any improvement, and 14 days to notice significant changes.
3bmom
Don't forget viruses can be a MAJOR component too since the immune system is dysfunctional. Valcyclovir for us in combination with antibiotics and diet were magical.
