Tell me about Tylenol please?

Recommended Posts

I have been seing posts on various forums stating that Tylenol is not safe to use for PANDAS kiddos. Can someone who really knows the answer speak to this for me? I gave it to my son when he was ill as an infant and throughout childgood and alternated it with Ibuprofen during and after both of his IVigs. He was not feeling well on Sat. and I found myself making a conscious choice to give him Ibuprofen instead of Tylenol...simply because I have recently read that Tylenol is "bad" for our kids. I figured it mught be nice to know why I did that! ;)

It depletes glutathione levels. Went to a conference on Sat where one presenter, an MD, said it's implicated as part of the package of ASD. He had a study sited that showed higher incidence of ASD in kids who received Tylenol with MMR than those who did not. Studies can show all kinds of things and I haven't read this study personally. He said Tylenol is very toxic in overdose vs other pain relief OTC meds.

I am re-posting this from last week's thread on the same topic....

Tylenol (acetaminophen) depletes glutathione. Glutathione is the body's most important antioxidant. It has a critical role in protecting cells from oxidative stress and maintaining the immune system.

Here is a good article on glutathione: http://www.huffingto...f_b_530494.html

High doses of acetaminophen or long term use depletes glutathione, which is made by our liver. This is the primary reason for this widely used over-the-counter drug's well-talked about liver toxicity. When someone overdoses on Tylenol, NAC will be administered to clear out the liver. NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) is a precursor to glutathione.

In my ignorance many years ago, I often gave Tylenol post-vaccinations to both of my children. Glutathione escorts mercury out of the body. Some vaccinations at the time my children were young contained mercury. By giving them Tylenol, I was unknowingly putting them at risk for mercury toxicity. They both have heavy metal loads to this day.

We only use Ibuprofen and completely avoid the use of Tylenol.

I brought this topic up last week because I thought I remembered reading that Tylenol has an effect on the bbb (blood brain barrier). I know I find myself making an effort to give ibeuprofin as well instead of Tylenol because of something I read about a year ago. I just don't want to chance anything anymore. If anybody knows how Tylenol affects the bbb please chime in. Thank you.
