Hi John,

Transient tics are ones that go away within 1 year or less by themselves. Many kids get tics, but many are just transient tics. TS tics are motor and vocal tics that have been present for over a year.

John,

You said you started a new vitamin regimen which included fish oil? Do you think maybe the fish oil is causing some problem as Chemar pointed out? Please let us know. I too had some questions, re fish oil. My bottle just ran out and am going to switch to flax/borage oil and see.

Also, I was wondering about manganese and copper as it is in the minerals kit we were given by naturo. (please see my previous post above).

C.P., did your son just start with tics at 12 or when he was younger? Is he still maintaing the improvements?

Thanks all,

Faith

Hi Faith

We didnt give him the fish oil in the end.

He has been very sick (and so has his sister) for the past 2 days with a nasty vomiting bug.

I can now say we have experianced the agony then exctasy then agony again. His eye rolling is very bad today. It does put you ona bit of a downed when that happens. I was so sure we had made progress after the vit pill and magnesium.

Still we will carry on day by day,

Hi Faith,

My son's tics were so slow to show up we didn't know he had TS. my husband didn't know he had TS as a child until it all exploded last year. My kids did not watch T.V. when they were real young. They really don't watch T.V. now, only because I think it's all trash. Just a Lucy or Waltons video on Fri. nights. We don't have cable or a dish. and only got a computer 3 years ago, so they didn't play computer games. I don't know if this is what helped with his tics not being noticable or not. He really doesn't have motor tics anyway. I think I would have noticed the tics earlier if he had motor tics. My husband has no motor tics at all. but had a head shaking tic when he was 10 and it lasted 2 years. I have been a stay at home mom since he was 1 and the private school he went to said no sweets of any kind in their lunch. So he has always eaten good foods. That might have helped too. I really think if he had not had those shots in Oct.2005 he would not have exploded as bad as he did. And I mean a vocal tic that was EAR PIERCING. It hurt my ears to have him next to me and let them out. I guess that was the part that crippled me, and I couldn't do the simplest things. Yes he is still doing good .yesterday was a bit more ticcing , but I'm thinking waxing moon. We had a plastic tupperwear lid fall on the coils of the dishwasher and a really bad smell came from that so not sure if that was part of the problem. The smell gave me a headache.

Blessings,

C.P.

I took Connor to the GP today to get him referred to a peadiatric Dr in town. Appointment in Feb. We are hoping that he will provide choices for his syptoms and not just want to give him drugs. We really dont want to go down that road but we are hoping he can put us in touch with a specialist that believes that the condition can be treated naturally. Fingers crossed.

We had a bad day yesterday.

Connor came home from school early as he was sick (headache etc). He was a bit upset as 3 of his "friends" were looking and whispering about him. His Eye Tic is bad and has been for the past week. The supplements although gave a good responce now dont seem to be making a difference.

Is it possible that his sickness might somehow negate the suppliments? He had a vomiting bug and now a viral infection.

When I spoke to the GP I found him to be very unsmypathetic. I explained that we really did not want to go down the drup route but would prefer to use herbal treatment. I said that we really did not know what to do. He was quite abrupt and told me that we new what we were doing as we had "ruled out treatment with drugs".

I suppose I should of said that we wanted choices. Still I suppose we have to start with geting a diagnoses. Does any one have any contacts for Dr's in Ireland?

Any way like I said were trying to keep a brave face on for Connor but inside were having a bad one.

I ordered Sheila's book last night, hopefully we can get some ideas from it.

Take care all

John...so sorry things have taken a downturn. Yes, illness and especially viral illness can make things worse and frequently underlying issues can impact the effectiveness of the supplements.

I dont have any contacts for doctors in the UK, but I would suggest that you try to find an Integrative doctor (conventionally trained and specialised in alternative medicine) or a naturopath. Honestly, from my own bitter experience, the conventional healthcare providers are really ignorant on all this and still follow the old fashioned approach of "live with the tics or take an antipsychotic med" <_<

Most of them dont even know much or anything about developments in PANDAS and PITANDS research that show a clear link to tic disorders, and they scoff at the mention of nutrition and supplements being a vital aspect of healing.

I am pleased you have ordered Sheila's book and hopefully you will find a doctor who is willing to either also read it or at least research info that you provide from it

Have you tried doing the Epsom Salts baths yet, John. I really cant recommend those highly enough, especially when tics are in flare mode. 2 cups of the salts (epsom salts=magnesium sulfate) in a tub of warm water and a 20-30 min soak before bed really helps!

Can someone please give me a list of what I should get Connor tested for. When we go to see the Peadiatric Dr in March I want to get blood tests, allergy test etc done.

We both know that all this Dr is going to do is drug him up.

Thanks again for all your help and kind words

Hi John

as someone who saw the awful results of allowing a doctor to "drug my son up" because I was told it was the only way he could live a full life <_< I want to again encourage you NOT to go this route, especially as by all the examples you have given here, your child has very mild and not injurious tics

anyway, because of your location and so not being certain what testing will be available, here is a basic list of what I personally feel is most important (I am sure others will also give their input as I may well miss some things)

1. PANDAS & PITANDS

2.CANDIDA albicans (aka "yeast overgrowth" )

3. Heavy metals

4. Food and Environmental allergies

5.Pyroluria

6.vitamin, mineral, amino acid and neurotransmitter levels

I realise not all of these may be familiar to your doc and so if you need more info on any of them, just ask or use the search here as we have many threads related to it.

sorry to have to be so brief but I have a heavy workload today

all the best

Cheri ^_^

Hi John,

I've just realised that looking for sources of Kirkman's products (supplements) in Europe I came accross a clinic in Ireland. It is one of European distributors of Kirkman's. I remembered that the owner treated autistic kids according to DAN protocol. I've just looked it up in the net and this it the place: http://www.chelation-ireland.com/. I don't know anything about this man except that he does DAN protocol. Maybe he will guide you through all the testing. Good luck! <_<

As for viral infections, we've just been through very bad viral gut infection. Staś had 40 degree fever (I don't know how much it is in Fahrenheit but belive me it is very high). He's tics has never been that bad.
