If it's any help, it's far cheaper to fly to NYC or Boston from most parts of the country than directly into Providence. Boston is about an hour and a half from Providence by car or train. Amtrak goes directly from Newark to Providence and the conference is walking distance from the train station. Airfare tends to be cheapest early in the week. I've read that people should book air on a Tuesday for the best rates.

Where theres a will, there's a way?

Those of you in the know about that area, would it be reasonable then for me to fly into Newark and then take the Amtrak? This looks like a much cheaper flight option. Please understand though that I can get lost in my own house :P . So I need a plan that is easy to understand. I appreciate suggestions. I can only do this if it is very economical (and I REEEEEEALLY want to).

Im sure it is very doable. But the train is more expensive than you might think. You ought to look into renting a car as well. Its a very easy, straight drive to RI. The city of Providence is right off I95. These days you can even rent a GPS for $10 a day. If you didnt want to pay for parking you could drive to the airport in PVD and get the MArriott shuttle to pick you up. It sounds complicated, but its really an easy ride. I make that ride many times a year.
