diggers1975
Hello...This is my first time to post, but have been following from time to time. Our grandson is 11 years old, diagnosed with tourettes at age 7, been on meds of Guanficine and Risperodahl. Has taken Nystatin for candida yeast and also following a good diet free of dairy, gluten, & sugar, along with preservatives, dyes, colors, etc. Weaned off both meds since January of 2013. On Bonnie Grimmaldie's supplements, also seeing a chiropractor who is running many tests systematically to rule out allergies, sensitivities, vitamin deficiencies, etc....recently again, he started screaming, which is very piercing! We are wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of vocal and what was your path of protocol to deal with it, what did you find was the cause and how was it treated? And, once treated, did the vocal come back? Thank you for all your help!
Chemar
Hi and welcome there are a number of reports of the amino acid l-carnitine helping with vocal tics. It is not intended for long term use but can be very effective short term. My son had an intense screaming tic during the months after he was weaned off the TS meds and l-carnitine was suggested by our physician and helped greatly. He was 11 yo at the time and on 500mg a day of the l-carnitine. We used the NOW brand. If you do a forum search, you will find posts by others on it as well

Also, how soon did you see results? Searching for the previous forum on this topic, but not coming up with any results.
Chemar
My son was on it for about 6 mths total but we saw results almost immediately. He went off it for a few weeks but when a yelping tic started, went back on it again Some years later he tried it again and did not like the effect. He was much older then (He is 24 now) When I search the word carnitine on Tourette/tics forum I get well over 500 results?
