M.O.A.T test. Hav you heard of it?

Recommended Posts

We had an OAT test done over the summer... I STILL haven't found a doctor who can decipher it!! Two of them (both well known pandas specialists) called it "gobbledeegook" and "fringe" testing :) and I paid $500 out of pocket for that. I still hope I can find someone who understands it... We have an apptment with Dr. B from California next week so I'm hoping she knows something about it :) good luck with yours - I hope it is helpful to you!

Maybe a lyme specialist can interpret, as they tend to understand the role that mold can play in making lyme worse. Good luck.

Who is Dr. B in California? LA area or Northern Ca? Can you PM me? Thanks.

It was a "Lyme specialist" who ordered it to begin with and then never followed up... We've also been to Dr. J in Ct and he said that it wasn't relevant, either. Ours was more then mold though, it was a full metabolic testing... Lilly was yours specific for mold? Maybe it's different to ours then!

If the test was from Great Plains Labratory, you can call and get a consult on the test. Also, if from GP Lab, their website offers some explanation.

If it's from metamatrix, their website also has explanation.

We have run these tests, and the yeast/fungal portion is not pertaining to mold found in a home or school/buildings- it is typically referring to arabinose, and if high, it is suggesting treat with anti-fungals and regain balance in the gut/body.

This type of yeast overgrowth comes from too little probiotics, too much sugar/carbs in the diet, antibiotics wiping out the good flora in the gut and allowing yeast overgrowth, leaky gut.

And oh yes, can cause behavioral issues in many kids.

The test also looks at clostrida overgrowth if present, klebsiella bacteria.

So it's from too little antibiotics and the gut being out of balance, but the gut must be REALLY out of balance for a reason, right? There is an infection or something that needs to be treated at same time???? I think I am getting closer to figuring this out. I have really think that her gut was not if good shape when I started treatment for strep and that is why the reactions to medications made her extremely violent and totally sick for weeks and weeks. Tests show clostridia, fungus/yeast on MOAT test. Don't think Candida. I am going to get these antifungals (amphotecerin) and antibacterials (vancomycen) and probioitcs all in place and THEN bring antibiotic on for strep. Am I making any sense.

**JMO, of course I am not a Dr. (but have played one in real life, ha ha)

So, the test is showing high clostrida (this will give aggressive, difficult behavior) and, high fungi/yeast (which is canidia, by the way)

Yep, her gut is way out of whack :-(

I know you have always had trouble giving her probiotics- but, IMO, in order to fix this, you must,

because if you use vanco. and Amp. B, it will kill off this bad stuff, but you need to replenish with good bacteria (probiotics) so the bad stuff (clostrida, yeast) cannot grow back.

Custom Probiotics are some good ones, high count probiotic.

I in no way can tell or recommend to take her off the antibiotics.

How is her diet? Watch the sugar and carbs.

Hang in there--

I am able to get probiotics into her now. So what we have now is a child with severe gut issues. Could this be all that is wrong or is it more since she does have a Cam Kinase of 166??? Sounds like PANDAS with gut problems, right? Clostridia is a tough one to get rid of I hear. BTW...her main symptoms have always been racing thoughts, severe confusion and NEVER SLEEPS. Could this be caused by clostridia, and the candida?
